Michael Carrick: We can still win the league

Manchester United lost 2-1 to Manchester City on Sunday in the English Premier League and although they remain 2 points behind league leaders Arsenal, that gap could stretch to 5 should the Gunners defeat Blackburn Rovers at the Emirates on Monday night.

But Man United midfielder Michael Carrick is confident that the Red Devils can still challenge for the title. He knows of course that coming back from a potential 5 point deficit would be tough to say the least but the England international remains optimistic.

Carrick says:

There are still games to play. I don’t think Arsenal will go the rest of the season without dropping points. If they did, fair play to them. There are still going to be ups and downs in the title race, and hopefully there will be more ups for us and we can overtake them.

Last week Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was speaking about going the remainder of the season unbeaten but now in the first match since that tall talk, Man United have lost their match. Seems strange and ironical, doesn’t it?
