The BBC report that Arsene Wenger is pleasantly surprised by his team’s five-point cushion at the top of the Premier League, but is keeping his feet on the ground for now. The Arsenal manager watched his team beat Blackburn 2-0 to extend their lead, although from experience knows how quickly things can change in football.
Wenger said: “There is still a long way to go.
“We didn’t expect to be where we are after this weekend.
“But it is important to keep some humility. This league is very tight – on the day you are not at your best, you can lose to anybody.
“It was a very good weekend for us,” Wenger added. “But we were a bit under pressure to take advantage of the situation after what happened on Sunday.”
The Gunners are now 4/6 favourites with the bookmakers to win their first title since 2003/4, although they still face trips to Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge before the season is out. Those that said Arsenal wouldn’t last the pace have been proved wrong up to now, although surely they’ll have a blip at some stage between now and the end of the campaign?
