It’s fair to say that Harry Redknapp is a big fan of new signing Lassana Diarra, despite admitting that the former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder is unlikely to stick around for too long. The Frenchman has been outstanding for Portsmouth so far, scoring the winner for his new club at the Reebok Stadium on Saturday. However, Sky Sports report that Redknapp is enjoying the good times while they last.
“He is so special. He is out of the top drawer,” Redknapp told The News. “Everything about him is special. He is an amazing player.
“He came out and said he wanted to play for a big, big club. Some players kiss the badge and say they love the club. Then as soon as they get the chance they’re off.
“He wants to play for Milan, Real Madrid or Barcelona one day. What’s wrong with that?”
It’s clear that Diarra also has a high opinion of himself, publicly criticising Arsene Wenger two months ago for his lack of first-team opportunities at Arsenal, despite the Gunners lofty position in the Premier League. The question remains as to whether the player will still be at Fratton Park in the summer, especially if he manages to make the French squad for Euro 2008.
