Atletico Madrid and Bolton Wanderers confront each other in the UEFA Cup on Wednesday night and although the Spanish giants are favourites against the Premiership relegation candidates, Atleti’s Portuguese international midfielder Simao Sabrosa isn’t taking Gary Megson’s side lightly.
Simao has been one of the many Hollywood signings made by Atletico last summer and has been one of the best players for the club so far this season. He reckons:
There is no favourite for this game. People can think whatever they want, but this game is 50/50. The news we have about Bolton is that they aren’t working well in The Premier League, but it doesn’t mean anything. Lots of team totally change when they play knockout games and we have to keep it in mind. English teams are always dangerous because they are hugely competitive during every game. The danger is permanent there because of the attacking football they play. Our best asset can be to play in counter attacks to help is qualify, nevertheless we don’t think that they are going to attack from the first minute.
Atletico are in the top four in La Liga this season and are likely to play in the UEFA Champions League next season whereas Bolton might as well plough on in the Championship next season. Yet this is a Cup tie and nothing can be taken for granted. But somehow you cannot shake off the feeling that Atletico would be too heavy on Bolton.
