Now this is utterly ridiculous. Why would the captain of a club basking in glory swap his shirt for a side that is trying to claw its way back into the centre?
Even the remote speculation that Manchester City captain Richard Dunne will join Newcastle United at the end of the season is ridiculously insane. After all, Dunne has already established himself as one of the stalwarts at the City of Manchester Stadium and is one of Sven-Goran Eriksson’s first names on the team sheet every weekend. On the other hand, Newcastle are planning to launch themselves next season and even under an ambitious Kevin Keegan, that plan should take some time.
The suggestion that Dunne would move into a Toon colour is based on his age (which is 28) and a rule which states that a player of over 28 and with over two years service can buy out his contract by paying £1.5 million.
Now would Dunne do that? Man City are expected to play in the UEFA Cup (at least) next season and Dunne would certainly like to try his luck in Europe.
