AC Milan striker Ronaldo came on as a substitute yesterday against Livorno and within the space of three minutes was lying in a crumpled heap on the floor, clutching his knee – it has since transpired that the buck-toothed goalmeister could have ruptured knee ligaments – and this could spell the end for one of the most brilliant footballers of the modern era. Having lost his World Cup paunch and gained a ridiculous Afro, Ronaldo’s AC Milan career ebbed and flowed, but now there is a cloud over whether he’ll even be able to play again.
Milan boss Carlos Ancelotti told acmilan.com that it isn’t over until the fat lady sings:
“We are all very upset and worried about what happened to Ronaldo. For our part we can only be there for him and stay calm.
“I don’t think I can say that his career is over because only time can tell when his career will end.”
