The Yak regains confidence of Everton manager

Yakubu returned to the Everton team yesterday, playing an important role in the Toffees 2-0 win at Brann and subsequently earning praise from his manager David Moyes. It goes some way to drawing a line under events of the past week, when the striker failed to report back at Goodison Park on time after Nigeria had been eliminated from the African Nations Cup. Sky Sports report that Moyes was also pleased with the improvement his team showed in the second-half last night.

“I am delighted with the way we turned this game around.

“In the first half we were not going anywhere, we were not passing the ball quickly enough and we were not showing enough pace around the pitch.

He added: “I was also pleased with the performance of (Ayegbeni) Yakubu, he came back into the side and played really well up front. He kept hold of the ball, linked the play well and worked really hard for the team.”

The Yak was left out of the Everton squad for last Saturday’s 1-0 win over Reading, although his manager has already cited the key contribution of the striker since he signed for the club from Middlesbrough earlier in the season. Looks like all has been forgiven as the Toffees stay on course for UEFA Cup glory at the City of Manchester Stadium in May.
