Darren Fletcher: ‘Beating Arsenal is always special’

Darren Fletcher was the star for Manchester United as the Red Devils blew away Arsenal in the fifth round of the FA Cup at Old Trafford on Saturday and scored twice in United’s 4-0 demolition of the London giants.

Fletcher was consistently pulling the strings from the midfield and was also singled out by his manager Sir Alex Ferguson for special praise. For the player himself, winning against Arsenal was a great delight and something that he relishes.

Fletcher says:

It means a lot for the team. It’s our victory, it was a great performance and we’re still in the FA Cup. Today was about showing what we can do and getting through to the next round. They are always big games against Arsenal and we’ve been unlucky a few times. We lost an FA Cup final on penalties that we dominated so we enjoy wins against Arsenal and this is no exception.

Fletcher has never been a regular for United so far in his career and although he exhibited a marvellous display against Arsenal, he shouldn’t be expecting to break into the United first team. Yet let the Scottish international midfielder rejoice in his glory for now.
