Poor, old Carlo Ancelotti. His AC Milan team are already out of the title race in the Italian Serie A and are actually fighting for a prized fourth spot in the table. There’s a good degree of probability that the Rossoneri might not make it to the UEFA Champions League next season through league positions and that implies that the only route for Milan to creep to Europe’s top-tier club football competition is by winning the trophy this season.
But first, they need to get past Arsenal at the Emirates in the last 16, first leg tie at the San Siro on Wednesday and that wouldn’t be easy. Milan migt have the likes of Kaka and Gennaro Gattuso back from injury but Ancelotti might just have to use a third choice custodian in front of goal for the first leg.
Regular goalie Dida is already out with an ankle injury and his replacement Zeljko Kalac is most likely to be out too after suffering a finger dislocation in his right hand. Coach Ancelotti says:
I don’t think Kalac will make it. For a goalkeeper a finger is very important but we will see in Tuesday’s training. If he is not able to train, Valerio Fiori will play.
Valerio Fiori? Never heard of the name before. Guess Milan are really up a stump and although they boast the likes of Alessandro Nesta and Paolo Maldini at the back, Milan’s defence hasn’t quite been tough this season. But then again, Carlo Ancelotti would take it should his side concede one goal and score one too at the Emirates on Wednesday evening.
