Arsenal lost not only the match but also their discipline during certain parts of Saturday’s 4-0 drubbing at Old Trafford. Indeed, during the second half, the Gunners captain William Gallas appeared to kick out at United winger Nani, with the two players subsequently squaring up to each other. However, the BBC reports that the FA will be taking no further action against the Frenchman.
But after viewing video footage the FA said: “The referee was not satisfied that it showed evidence of violent conduct and no action will be taken.”
This decision may not please Sir Alex Ferguson who claimed at the time that Gallas should have been sent off. The kicking was in response to Nani showing off his dribbling skills with his team in the ascendancy, much to the chagrin of opposing manager Arsene Wenger. It’s probably fair that the FA have decided to draw a line under a fixture which nearly always has a flashpoint or two.
