Chelsea play Greek giants Olympiakos in the UEFA Champions League, last 16, first leg tie in Athens on Tuesday night and Michael Essien is set to play a key role in the match. The player himself wants to forget the bitter memories of the failure of his national team Ghana in the recently concluded African Cup of Nations and says that winning the European Cup would compensate for that.
They’ve (Olympiacos) done a good job and didn’t lose a game. It didn’t surprise me because I know we have the players to do it. The team has done really well, and we have to keep going and continue to win our matches. It was very sad to miss out on the African Nations Cup, but you have to forget about the past and look the future. Chelsea have a bright future, and I still have more trophies ahead of me. We are still in all four trophies and will work really hard. We have to achieve something and win something this year.
To be honest, Chelsea are favourites against Olympiacos in this tie although they would be without a couple of key players. Yet you would suppose the London Blues to easily get past the Greek warriors.
