Fergie riled by Manchester United defender
by stresster on February 22nd, 2008 9 commentsThis appears to have been dragging on for the best part of the season and now Sir Alex Ferguson has spoken out regarding Wes Brown’s continual stalling over signing a new contract at Old Trafford. Sky Sports report that the Manchester United manager is far from happy that the full-back is being governed by his agent over a new deal.
“Players of today live in their agents’ pockets,” he said.
“It’s a situation which depresses me at times, it really depresses me.
“Wes has been with us since he was 12, but I don’t think that matters these days.
“Players’ agents live their lives for them and if you are happy to go along with that, you get the situation you have got just now.”
Indeed, it appears that loyalty counts for nothing as far as Brown is concerned. Fellow United full-back Patrice Evra has also recently indicated his displeasure at earning significantly less than the Wayne Rooneys and Cristiano Ronaldos of this world. Can United afford to lose Brown at the end of the season if no contract is signed?

I think Fergie is being a bit harsh taking this public.
In this modern day world, a player works for a corporation and needs to get paid his worth i.e. as much as he can get.
No one likes to be underpaid in their own job, especially compared to peers, and football is no different.
You can’t expect a player to pledge allegiance to a corporation.
Now if it were Barca and their interesting structure, it would be a different matter altogether.

i kind of agree with you. Maybe we should reward Wes for his loyalty since he has been with us since he was 12. Saying that, it wouldnt be the end of the world if he decides he needs to move on, although we would attempt to sing Lahm which would mean just another englishman out of our side

The words ‘pot’ ‘kettle’ and ‘black’ spring to mind here. Did it depress His Purple Nosedness when agents very kindly ‘persuaded’ Rooney and Ronaldo to quit their hometown clubs (where – like Brown- they had been since kids) in order to join United?? No. The man should grow up and stop throwing his doll out of the pram when things don’t go the way he wants them to.

if he leaves its time to put danny simpson in the team.
he can do the job, as seen earlier in the season when he filled in.
