The Guardian reports that a host of defensive problems could force Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez to play Daniel Agger against Middlesbrough at Anfield in a English Premier League fixture on Saturday. Agger has been recuperating from a metatarsal fracture that he sustained about five months ago.
The highly rated centre half was expected to be back into action only after 6 more weeks but swift and efficient medical treatment has enabled him to recover (apparently) earlier. Liverpool would be without the suspended Jamie Carragher for the visit of struggling Middlesbrough while winter signing Martin Skrtel is suffering from a calf strain.
Liverpool’s backline has often revealed cracks more often that they have done in the past few seasons and Rafa Benitez would certainly be flexing his muscles and gray cells to combay this particular worrying factor. Boro might be facing relegation threats at the moment but they are always capable of springing a surprise and Benitez knows that.
