Manchester United striker Carlos Tevez is not used to playing the role of a substitute but he has started his last two games from the bench. Yet he scored the equaliser against Lyon at the weekend and his team mate Rio Ferdinand says that Tevez is not unhappy at playing the role of a substitute.
The England international defender says:
I don’t think Carlos will be frustrated by starting on the bench. It’s a squad game and he’s come on before and had an impact.
Nani did the same. He came off the bench and put two great balls into the box from which we almost scored on both occasions.
So it shows how important it is to have a range of options on the bench. A lot of teams we’ll be competing against in Europe have those options.
Arsenal have them, Lyon were able to put on someone like Ben Arfa in the later stages of the game but our options paid off.
Carlos and Nani both had a big impact on the game in Lyon.
If Tevez from the bench can light up the match, then you can well imagine what he will do when he will play from the start. Maybe Sir Alex Ferguson doesn’t want his opponents to be demolished and that he is why he has decided to play Tevez as a substitute.
