Everton striker Ayegbeni Yakubu is in red hot form after scoring a hat-trick in the UEFA Cup in midweek against SK Brann that stormed the Merseysiders to the last 16 of the competition. The Nigerian international striker had actually been missing just after the African Nations’ Cup and returned late to the Goodison but after Moyes’ hardline approach of the player, the Yak is back into his old self.
David Moyes left him out of the squad for a Premiership match but insists that it was this hardline approach that has helped him real dividends with Yakubu. The Everton manager remarks:
He is back, he has shown me and the fans that, despite the problem he had here.
Yak looks the part. His all-round play has improved, we have been impressed with his intelligence and how he brings other players into the game.
If he keeps doing that he will be a big player for us. He has given us a new dimension, we paid a record fee for him and at the moment you can see he is worth it.
Sound fun, doesn’t it? And quite effective too. No more worries for Everton fans now, the Yak is back alright.
