Blackburn crippled by injury crisis

Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers confront each other in the English Premier League on Sunday with the former playing for a top six finish and the latter trying to distance themselves from the drop zone.

But Blackburn’s crisis in terms of injury, especially to defender, is crippling Mark Hughes’ ambition. Both first-choice centre-halves Andre Ooijer and Ryan Nelsen will be out for the visit of the Trotters to Ewood Park on Sunday. Hughes sighs:

Andre is still struggling so it would be a surprise if he was involved and obviously we’re still struggling with Ryan Nelsen as well.

But it’s compensated somewhat because obviously Chrissy Samba is available again after suspension alongside David Dunn and Morten Gamst Pedersen.

So we’ve got a few more bodies than we had going into the Arsenal game (two weeks ago) where the guys involved were probably the only ones that I had available.

We’ve got a few injuries but we’re hoping that some will resolve themselves in the next week or so.

Bolton might be struggling to stave off relegation but Gary Megson’s side would be no pushovers since they are into the last 16 of the UEFA Cup after seeing off Atletico Madrid in the last round. We don’t assume this Sunday derby to be pretty but it would certainly be a stiff battle between the two sides.
