A £10m Berbatov replacement that Newcastle and Spurs won’t like!
March 31, 2008
Having helped inflict some misery on Spurs during Newcastle’s 4-1 win at White Hart Lane it has now been reported that the England international is now a target for Juande Ramos should they lost Dimitar Berbatov in the summer.
Newcastle United striker Michael Owen is a top target for Tottenham. Spurs transfer supremo Damien Comolli and boss Juande Ramos both view Owen as a possible replacement for Dimitar Berbatov if the Bulgarian ace moves in the summer. (The Mirror)
Now there is no doubt that a few years back Michael Owen was one of the biggest talents on the planet and there is also no doubt that his career at club level is moving in the right direction, he is however probably one injury away from the end of his career and given his fragile state that injury could happen at seemingly any moment. Just ask Newcastle fans, he is after all averaging one goal for each of the £16m paid to Real Madrid 2 and a half years ago.
Spurs man was told to ‘just go’!
March 31, 2008
Alan Hutton has had a pretty decent start to his Spurs career and clearly he was rumoured to be heading out the Ibrox door for some time before he was finally pushed out!
“It got to the stage where they were saying, ‘Just go’. I’ll not tell you who but they were saying, ‘Go down, you’ll enjoy it. Yeah, you can stay at Rangers and you’ll win things and play in the Champions League every year, but are you going to progress as a player? To do that you have to go down south’.” (Sunday Times)
And go down South he did and clearly Walter Smith’s loss is Juande Ramos’s gain. The Scottish international looks very assured at White Hart Lane and should be a mainstay that the club can build on as they attempt to push on up the table.
Is another £100m the solution for Rafa and Liverpool?
March 31, 2008
We all know that Rafa has been linked with a great many players and most recently the Liverpool boss has confirmed three new arrivals already on the cards (Rafinha looking like one of those for sure). The question is, which of these other potential signings would you like to see at the club? Maybe you want all of them? Or just one or two? Maybe an entire squad building venture is called for, or just a little repair work here and there.

Arsenal to bid a record £14m for the next ‘Messi’! Cesc wants it to happen!
March 31, 2008
Arsenal’s inspirational midfielder Cesc Fabregas is a big fan and if it keeping him happy is one of Arsene Wenger’s main priorities then the Gunners manager may want to act on the 20 year old magician’s recommendation.
Real Mallorca winger Juan Arango is a player admired by Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas and he has urged his boss to sign £14m-rated attacking midfielder (The People).
The Venezuelan has been a mainstay at Real Mallorca for the past few years and has often been compared to Lionel Messi. He operates very effectively behind the strikers and weighs in with a fair few goals in the process.
Liverpool and Spurs have both been linked with Arango in the past and I guess one factor that might dissuade Wenger from parting with such a large sum of cash is that at 27 he isn’t exactly the kind of player the Frenchman would bring in mind you he isn’t much older than Messrs Hleb and Rosicky when they made the move to north London.
Newcastle or Spurs? £8m striker has to make a tough decision!
March 31, 2008
Newcastle gave Spurs a hiding yesterday that’s for sure. Everything they aimed in Paul Robinson’s direction ended up either in the back of the net or very near it. However they could probably still do with another striker in their locker, especially given Michael Owen’s fragile state and Mark Viduka’s advancing years! Spurs on the other hand clearly have problems at the back and not at the front, so quite why Ramos is even contemplating a move to this guy is beyond me
Newcastle and Spurs are closing in on Seville’s unsettled Brazil striker Luis Fabiano, 27, who is rated at £8m. (News of the World)
Sure he’s the top scorer in La Liga, sure he’s scoring at more than a goal a game in one of the toughest leagues in the world, sure he’s made it back into the Brazilian national team (where am I going with this?). However my gut feeling is that he is not worth taking a risk on, his wages will be sky high apparently and has a ‘bad boy’ attitude. Also players from Brazil hardly ever make it in the UK. I think Kevin Keegan would be able to use his chairman’s money more wisely.
Liverpool, West Ham and Spurs all chase £8m Serie A star, but what for?
March 31, 2008
Something of a show-pony whenever I have seen him in action for Lazio, Valon Behrami is apparently a target for many Premier League clubs.
Lazio president Claudio Lotito is wants to secure a new contract for Switzerland international Valon Behrami before Liverpool, West Ham United or Tottenham pounce. (Corriere dello Sport)
Not sure what to make of this, either a legitimate story or more likely an agent looking to get a better deal for his club. The Rome club having a distinctly patchy season and are floundering in mid-table so it’s no surprise that players at the Stadio Olimpico appear to be engineering an exit. Expect Boro to be linked next!
Newcastle line-up £30m Quartet to help usher in new Keegan era
March 31, 2008
The money men seem to be set to back Kevin Keegan to the hilt this summer. After a shaky start to his return to St James’ Park the Newcastle legend has begun to see his side perform admirably. Clearly the new manager wants the squad to better resemble his playing style than the workmanlike side that ‘Big’ Sam failed to mould. Hence the array of attacking players on the radar.
Newcastle United boss Kevin Keegan is ready to offer £6.5 million for Chelsea fullback Wayne Bridge (News of the World).
La Liga stars Luis Fabiano and Jose Antonio Reyes are high up on the Newcastle wish-list and Newcastle’s Spanish speaking recruitment chief Tony Jimenez has already been in contact with Reyes’ representatives (The People)
Keegan is also chasing unsettled and off form winger Aaron Lennon who is seeing less and less of the action under Juande Ramos (The People)
Clearly not all of these internationals will be heading to the north-east and I would outline Wayne Bridge as possibly the wisest purchase amongst this quartet.
West Ham look set to sign £2m youngster
March 31, 2008
Alan Curbishley appears to be stepping up his interest in Ipswich youngster Danny Haynes.
West Ham United are stepping up their chase for Ipswich attacker Danny Haynes, the £2m target is also on Birmingham’s radar (various)
Haynes would be a useful addition to the Hammers ranks that have been boosted by the recent injection in youthful talent as Curbs looks to test how his teenage stars cope as the season draws to a close. Clearly if Ipswich fail to win promotion then the deal seems far more likely as the 20 year old attacked clearly wants to make the step up to the Premier League.
Spurs man in £2m move to Aston Villa or Middlesbrough, daylight robbery!
March 31, 2008
So Aston Villa decided that the valuation of Scott Carson was too steep, fair enough, although I disagree to some extent I could still see their point. However the amount they appear to be about to purchase England keeper Paul Robinson for is surely a joke?
Spurs will allow Paul Robinson leave White Hart Lane for £2m with Middlesbrough and Aston Villa believed to be interested in the England keeper. (The People)
Gareth Southgate’s Boro are also sniffing around the much maligned former Leeds man. Let’s get this straight, Robbo hasn’t been at his best in recent months, years, decades etc… however surely that valuation is way below what he is worth. Lets get this in perspective. Mido went for £6m! I know Ramos wants him out but surely they should try to get their money’s worth!
If anyone in football deserves £100k a week then it’s Arsenal’s magician!
March 31, 2008
You can hardly blame them can you, if I was a professional footballer and was offered an obscene amount of money to play the game I love I am hardly like to turn around and say that it’s immoral and unjust.
The latest Premier League player set to break the ton milestone deserves every penny in my opinion
Arsenal are ready to make Cesc Fabregas the latest Premiership star to break the contract £100,000-a-week barrier (The Mirror).
Given the fact that the Spaniard didn’t cost millions I am not surprised he is being given a hefty pay rise. Hopefully this will scare away potential pesky La Liga suitors.
Is Arsenal’s Vela a Spurs’ Taarabt who is actually worth shouting about?
March 31, 2008
I think it’s safe to say that those who were unduly optimistic about Adel Taarabt may have had their collective wings clipped yesterday as for half and hour he showboated and added very little to the side who plummeted to a 4-1 defeat.
Liverpool star may have had enough after his 30 second cameo against Everton
March 31, 2008
Whether you think Peter Crouch is good enough for a regular start at Anfield or not you must have some sympathy for the giant striker. He finished last season as top scorer and even though Fernando Torres came in with a bang you would still have expected the England international to get some kind of look in the Liverpool line up. Having made just six starts in the Premier League (that’s even less than Harry Kewell) you can understand why he might consider buying out his contract and leaving for pastures new in the summer
A friend of Crouch said: “Peter has kept his mouth shut and tried to prove himself on the training ground every day but it obviously isn’t enough. He knows if Rafa leaves in the summer then the new man might give him a fair crack but if Rafa stays then he will definitely move on. Manchester City are a team on the up and Peter knows they have a good chance of breaking into Europe next year and he won’t have to move house either.” (The People)
Did you know the Merseyside outfit have not lost in the 30 matches Crouchy has scored in? It’s a fact to tell your friends and pass of as a stat you came up with on your own. Will he score another in the Red jersey though?
Spurs chasing Villarreal custodian
March 31, 2008
Villarreal president Fernando Roig has admitted that a host of top European clubs are trying to lure their custodian Diego Lopez. The Spaniard has been in impressive form since his summer switch from Real Madrid to El Madrigal and it is believed that Spurs manager Juande Ramos wants to land the player at White Hart Lane in the summer.
Toilet tycoon Roig says:
He is a big keeper and we want him to be with this club for a long time.
It’s true that clubs like Milan and Tottenham have asked about the chances of getting him but we have no desire to sell.
Spurs are also linked to Carlos Kameni who plays for Espanyol Barcelona. Anyway, Ramos seems to have made up his mind to sign a La Liga player to play for his side between the sticks next season.
Chelsea eyeing Dutch starlet
March 31, 2008
Chelsea appear to be heading FC Barcelona and Arsenal way in procuring youngsters at a very early age. At the moment they are eyeing Shayton Curiel.
Curiel is a 16-year old Dutch forward who also features for the Netherlands’ Under 17 side as well as for the Dutch amateur club Spartaan 20.
He is set to come to Stamford Bridge on trial in te first week of April. It’s said that if he impresses, and there’s every chance that he will, then he will be staken into the Chelsea set-up.
Moyes won’t give up his 4th place hopes for Everton
March 31, 2008
Despite going into the make or break Merseyside derby game like a particularly fatalistic band of Flagellants, conceding within minutes, and going on to muster a blunt retort to Torres’ opener - Everton boss Davie Moyes is keeping the faith and still reckons that the Toffees can nab fourth. The ginger Braveheart said:
“A five-point advantage at this stage of the season is a great advantage but I’m looking over my shoulder at teams who are five points behind us and hoping we’ve got enough to stay clear, I’m sure those just above us are doing the same.
“We will fight on. I told the players afterwards that it is great Everton are coming here involved in games [which affect] thinking about the Champions League. I’ve no doubt we will pull it together. We could have gone under here but we didn’t. These players don’t lose often, don’t concede many goals, but the disappointment today was that we didn’t create any chances.”
Is Moyes in denial or can Everton still bag fourth?
