Sir Alex reckons Chelsea fans shouldn’t commit Hari Kiri just yet

Losing the Carling Cup to your London rivals and then having news of bust-ups and crap coaching spread all over the papers can take a toll on the most optimistic supporter, but The Mirror quotes Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson as saying that Chelsea cannot still be ruled out of the Premiership title race and that Avram Grant’s men can still make it a three-horse race.

Arsenal lead the table by 3 points from Man United who are a further 6 ahead of Chelsea and Fergie insists that Chelsea can rush back into the title chase:

The number of points Chelsea are behind Arsenal is not insurmountable because in this Premier League points can be dropped. The fact their home record is so good, you would have to think they have still got a big chance in the Premier League.

The Champions League, which I think is what they are really after given Roman Abramovich’s contribution to Chelsea’s rise in the last few years, is within their grasp too.

I think they’ve got the easiest draw of the English teams and have got the best chance of going into the last eight.

So tally ho, Chelsea, the league and Champions League are still in sight and there’s no reason to worry.

Oh, other than that whole Avram Grant thing.
