Liverpool managed to beat Bolton Wanderers at the Reebok Stadium in the English Premier League for the first time in three years and those 3 points imply that the Reds are now 3 points behind Everton in fifth. Rafael Benitez’s inconsistent side has also a game in hand.
All this has encouraged the Liverpool gaffer Benitez who says that the race to finish fourth in the table is up and running. He says:
Every win is important when you are fighting for fourth place. You need to put the other teams around you under pressure and we have done that today. As we have a game in hand, it depends on what we do. You do not need to see the table every day. If we can win against West Ham, then we go into the game after that with confidence.
Assuming that Liverpool win their game in hand, they will be level on points with their Merseyside rivals Everton and that should wrestle the momentum and advantage back to the Reds.
Oh, another thing. Did anyone see Bolton striker El-Hadji Diouf after the match? If you do catch him, then remember to taunt him by asking him to eat his words. Before the match against Liverpool, the Senegalese international striker was adamant that Liverpool would once again slip up at the Reebok. Diouf, a former Liverpool player, must certainly be in hiding now!
