Champions League the priority for Chelsea manager

Win their game in hand in the Premier League and Chelsea will find themselves just four points behind Arsenal in top spot. However, despite this, Sporting Life reports that Blues boss Roman Abramovich Avram Grant has targeted the Champions League as the club’s number one priority this season. It should come as little surprise to anyone, with Jose Mourinho axed after failing to land that particular piece of silverware for the west London club over three seasons, despite picking up two league titles.

“The players are experienced in this kind of stage,” Grant said.

“But we said from the beginning that our target was to succeed in the Champions League.

“It is the priority of this club but also it is the priority of me. I am living in this club.

“We haven’t got to the final and as a good team that wants to be bigger we need to be in the final of the Champions League. It is not easy because there are many good clubs but this is our priority.”

It’s clear that Chelsea are trying to forge a global dominance, not just a domestic one, so a European success would well and truly put them on the map. However, the bookmakers only make them the fourth likeliest team to triumph in the competition behind Barcelona, Manchester United and Arsenal – surely the Blues aren’t good enough to win any silverware this season?
