Newcastle defender wants to play in Championship

Who needs to visit Old Trafford, the Emirates and Anfield to play your football when there are trips to Norwich, Preston and Colchester on the horizon? That’s pretty much the attitude of Newcastle defender Steven Taylor, who has declared himself committed to the club, despite talks regarding a new contract taking longer than expected. Sky Sports report that the player wants to continue playing the black-and-white of the Magpies, despite that fact they are currently an appalling team who are playing to Championship standard.

“I am 100 per cent committed to Newcastle,” Taylor told Sky Sports News. “I cannot see myself leaving this football club this is where I want to play my football and I am happy here.

“Obviously working for Kevin Keegan for me is fantastic, I remember me and my dad on the terraces going to games and to be now working under him is fantastic, a dream come true.”

United are likely to find themselves even closer to the relegation zone after the weekend, when they travel to Anfield keen to avoid the kind of thumpings they’ve received against Manchester United and Aston Villa recently. They’re still without a win under Kevin Keegan and the Geordies must be wishing this was a bad dream and that Sam Allardyce was back in charge.
