There must be somebody with two brain cells to rub together at St James’ Park. After a long procession of directors, managers and coaches joined the club in January without any hint of new playing staff, it appears that Newcastle have recruited a defender to help them shore up their creaking defence. Eurosport reports that free agent Lamine Diatta is on his way to sunny Tyneside.
Keegan said: “We have not got much cover if we pick up any more injuries to our defenders, and Diatta will provide this.”
Diatta’s previous clubs include Besiktas, Lyon and Rennes, although it would be a surprise if he was any more than a bit-part player for the Magpies between now and the rest of the season.
