Did you guys see Gilberto anywhere this morning? Possibly not, since the Tottenham Hotspur defender must be sleeping after a nightmare for his new club last night in the UEFA Cup tie with Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven.
It was Gilberto’s mistake that led PSV to score the only goal of the match and his debut was poor. Yet Spurs manager Juande Ramos refuses to believe that Gilberto should be blamed for the defeat and remarks:
I didn’t substitute him because he made a mistake at the back, it was because he has had a calf injury and has not got the rhythm.
He needs to play many more games, that’s why I took him off.
Every football player makes mistakes. What we have to do now is support him and help him to try to recover his best level. We’re not going to blame him for the defeat.
Well, Ramos is right in his views but the Spurs fans might not be persuaded by Ramos’ insistence.
