Liverpool duo Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard have scored an astounding 44 goals between them so far this season and 9 in their last 5 matches together. The duo combined with each other to account for two of Liverpool’s goals against a helpless Newcastle United side in the Premiership on Saturday.
Torres says that he loves playing with his club captain Gerrard and says that they have got a perfect understanding of each other on the pitch. The Spanish matador raves:
When you play alongside a player like Stevie, and with Ryan (Babel) and Jermaine (Pennant) on the wings, it is easy to score like I have been. They are brilliant and make my job easy.
I am very comfortable with the partnership I have with Stevie and he is comfortable with me. We now must play like this for a long time together.
We know where each other is running, where we are. I score, Stevie scores, and the team is winning. That is the most important thing.
We both do our jobs and the team is winning. That is all we are trying to do.
As much as Torres derserved praise for his scoring free for Liverpool this season, it is also worthwhile to note that Torres never got a Steven Gerrard when he was at Atletico Madrid and thus never managed to hit 20 or more goals a season at the Estadio Vicente Calderon. Torres already has 25 goals in 34 matches and many more will certainly follow.
