Is Adebayor goal drought the reason for Arsenal’s winless run?

Sometimes, the stats don’t lie. Emmanuel Adebayor has failed to score in Arsenal’s last four league matches and guess what? The Gunners have failed to win a single one of them. A quartet of draws has seen them drop eight valuable points and leaves them with a severely uphill task if they are to wrest the title crown from Manchester United. They could be five points clear but instead they trail by three points going into Sunday’s match at Stamford Bridge.

Before the match at Birmingham a month ago, the Togolese striker had scored in the previous seven league matches, with Arsene Wenger’s team winning six of them. Is Adey missing Eduardo, who has previously acted as a foil for the lanky striker, drawing defenders away from the ball with intelligent runs. The Sun reports today that Nicklas Bendtner claims he and the Arsenal number 25 can work in harmony, but is he right?

Bendtner said: “People keep saying we are too similar in style and things like that. But I think it can work just fine.

“We combined for a goal against Aston Villa earlier this month. And I think it went quite well when we played Wigan.

“We found each other a few times — though it wasn’t easy on that surface!

“I think it’s good for me to be able to help the team in whatever way I can.

“This season it was very important for us to show everyone that we are at the top of English football.

“That’s where we belong and where we have always belonged. If we can carry on now and get a trophy, it will be fantastic.”

Sorry Nick, but it looks like the horse has bolted as far as your title chances are concerned. You WERE at the top of English football but seem to lack the squad size and consistency to stay there, more’s the pity. The Champions League surely represents Arsenal’s best chance of landing the trophy now.
