Manchester City owner Thaksin Shinawatra has assured his manager Sven-Goran Eriksson that he shall have more funds in the summer to spend on players who would drive City to the prestigious confines of the UEFA Champions League in the next couple of seasons.
Eriksson says:
There will be money available this summer. I didn’t ask about how much but there will be money and that’s good.
What he has done so far is absolutely perfect. Everything he promised he has lived up to.
I think what he said was really clear – money will be available this summer and even more money the summer after.
His ambitions are big – that is good and what you expect from a former prime minister.
He would like to see this club playing in the Champions League in a couple of years – perfect ambitions. That’s my ambitions as well.
But Sven and his master ought to know that big and easy money doesn’t necessarily import success.
