Arsenal man reduced to tears
March 24, 2008
Some stories have that feel good factor, like a Ron Howard movie or an episode of Willo-the-wisp. This one genuinely got this reporter welling up inside.
Eduardo made an emotional return to the Emirates ahead of the recent Barclays Premier League game with Middlesbrough.
It was clearly an experience that made an impact on the Croatian who said: “When everyone started clapping I felt like crying. I actually cried inside, but didn’t allow the tears to go down my face. It gave me the confidence and strength to come back even stronger.” (Arsenal TV)
I think this goes to show just how positive an influence true fans can be to a footballer. Clearly Gunners fans appreciate the bravery that the Cro-zillian has shown following that horror lunge and it’s always good to see supporters showing their support for a fallen team member. I am sure Eduardo will come back fighting fit and raring to help Arsenal to some silverware.

Got something to say?

I love arsenal. not because of Arsene Wenger, Cesc Fabregas or the fact that we have a beatiful set of kits (even though they are all small reasons for it). It is because we are different. It is true we havent won a trophy in the past few years. Howerver we remain a definite top 4 side. We play beautiful. We play fast. We have youth. We have passion. But far and away the ultimate thing that makes a gunner a gunner is that no matter what we ALWAYS respect our players and encourage them no matter the situation. Need examples?
- Totteham: 5 Arsenal: 1 —- At 4-1 chants and singing of ‘Arsenal Arsenal’ rang through white heart lane
- Freddie Ljunberg returns to Arsenal ——- Chants of ‘Freddie Freddie’
- Chelsea: 2 Arsenal :1 —- Gallas approaches the Arsenal section and they rise to their feet to applaud him
Do you know what we are not? Chelsea
- We dont waste money because we can
- We dont try to bend the rules to suit our situation
- We dont teach our players to wind other players up, dive or mouth off at the referees
- We dont chant past managers names (chelsea) during home matches
- We dont abuse our players and throw items bought at the game at them
- We dont abuse one of our great past players because they left unless they are Ashley Cole who left because he is still a child and will never grow up.
- When we lose a great player we dont go and spend all our money to replace him. Henry —-> Adebayor , Cole —–>Clichy , Vieira ——-> Cesc
This is why i love Arsenal. The day an Arsenal fan abuses our own or claims our men arent giving 100% is the day we become Chelsea.
Have a good day Gunners.
ok, I am a great believer of supporting a fallen comrade and was one of many that - even though I’m not a Gunner - am wishing all the best for Eduardo. I think it would be safe to say that even 90%+ of the footballers out there would have been applauding if they were in that crowd too.
Having said that, most of the rest of what you say is - well - is spoken with the bias any passionate fan has towards their club. Don’t believe for a second that Arsenal are that different from any other team in the premiership. As for not being a big spender.. maybe not this time around, but how do you think those big name players got there in the first place!!
Pull off those blinders man, you’ve got a talented team there, no need to be in denial. We all believe that our team is above and beyond the others in some ways. Only the true fans know enough about the history of their clubs to be able to comfortably admit to the faults that they know exist.
Back on track though.. here’s a toast to Eduardo’s full recovery. I would say he was a joy to watch except he always had that terrible kit on!
Cesc Jnr you are such a stupid cunt.
Have you forgotten your club’s history of corruption? Or did you only start supporting them when they won the league? Twat.
Don’t you care that your fucking club competes in the English Premier League but only has one token Englishman on the bench?
Can you not see that despite becoming the the dirtiest team in the league this season you are still a bunch of pussies who won’t win anything AGAIN?
You say you play beautiful (sic) but you can’t score! Anyone can pass the ball around in front of a defence but you have to SCORE for your football to be any good, and to WIN SOMETHING to have your team regarded as great.
You suggest that Chelsea for instance buy their players and consequently their trophies, but how many of your team grew up in Highbury? London? England?
You make a big deal out of one of your players getting crocked when you (presumably) still cheer for the cowardly Eboue who deliberately left his foot in and broke the foot of the ENGLAND captain.
Add to that the diving and bleating and time wasting that your team spends so much time doing and I think it completes the picture of a corrupt team, so desperate to win something that they will do anything to get a trophy and so unlikely to win anything that they bang on and on about being the most beautiful team in the league.
I’ll quote Arsene himeself ” everyone thinks his wife is beautiful”. But you probably don’t remember that as you only bought your shirt a couple of years ago.
Baby Blue,
Maybe you havent realised that over the past maybe 20 years there has been a rapid expansion of a thing called ‘globalisation’. This means that labour mobility increases in its basic form leaving greater abilities for Football players to travel and express themselves overseas. The English PREMIER League is the greatest in the world and what you are trying to tell me is that because of a man’s geographical birth place he should be scrutinised for playing in an overseas football side. You sir are a ridiculous person with ridiculous things to say. And just so you get your facts right Arsenal has a large number of youth Englishman who ARE coming through the ranks and WHO HAVE been born and grown up in England. Look at players such as Steve Sidwell and David Bentley. Do you think that Arsenal has done the ENGLISH premier league a favour by bringing them through the ranks and providing them a platform on which to build their footballing career. Had they remained at Arsenal would things be different for you? They shouldnt be because they are still in the ENGLISH premier league arent they?
By the way you only have Terry, Lampard and Cole you know that right. 3 out of 11. Congratulations you are also a huge ambassador for English promotion of players.
Now to your second point….in what way are we ‘dirty’. I dont believe we have many players that intentionally try to injure an opponent or claim that someone has dived when they have clearly been hacked down OR for that matter blantantly dive every time it will benefit the team (COUGH DROGBA COUGH).
You also say that you have to score and win trophies to be good. Arsenal had been recognised as one of top 10 footballing sides in the world over the past 3 year AS WELL AS many before that. In those 3 years what have we won…nothing. Does that make us a bad side. I dont think so. The fans dont think so. The players dont think so. Arsene doesnt think so. And hey…who gives a shit what a slimy Chelsea fan thinks…he is only a chav anyway right?
Then you say we ‘presumably’ cheer for Eboue for breaking Terry’s foot. Let me refresh your memory here. Earlier in that match Lampard tried to take out Fabregas with a dirty, slimy and cowardly late tackle with full intention of kicking out at the Spanish master. Howevrer this shouldnt be considered dirty should it. Because he is the English captain…how silly of me. Ohh sorry i forgot, Chelsea players cant get booked for stuff like that…only Adebayor and other Arsenal players can get sent of in Carling Cup finals for DOING NOTHING.
How is it that you ‘Presume’ we cheer for Eboue in his breaking of Terry’s foot?
That is like me saying that ‘presumably’ Chelsea buy their trophies through Abramavich and paying off referees (did i say that out loud? - sorry).
Another question? Who dives in arsenal. I have seen hleb dive once or twice in my life and i havent missed an Arsenal match since my final year of school 3 years ago…I live in australia and the games are televised when the owls are out mate. So maybe questioning my ‘fairweatherness’ for Arsenal is just ridiculous. I have seen sagna dive a few times. I have seen Eboue consistently dive. I have seen Fabregas milk free kicks and wind up opponents…both of which are still in the rules…but no diving. 3 of our 11 have dived more then once……Lets look at Chelsea shall we. Ashley cole - dives, Didier Drogba - dives, FRANK LAMPARD (OHHHHHHHH NO I DIDNT SAY THAT HE IS IN THE ENGLAND SENIOR SIDE ISNT HE!!!) - dives, Ferreira - dives, Ballack - dives, Obi Mikel - dives, Essien - dives. So how many is that mr Baby Blue???? Maybe you should watch more football my friend.
Ahhh yes time wasting….when….how. Do you mean taking the ball to the corner like every side does in a TACTICAL move. In what way do we time waste??? Please explain this concept to me…you seem to know an awful lot more about my club then i do.
And yes as Arsene said “everyone thinks his wife is beautiful”…’presumably’ this works for your mothers as well howerver Baby Blue in your case even you must have a point where you cant consider your female family members to be beautiful in any way whatsoever…..then again…Chav.
I look forward to your enlighting response.
