Blackburn’s Bentley isn’t even fit to clean Man United legend Beckham’s boots!

March 25, 2008

David Bentley is getting a load of attention right now and whilst the former Arsenal man is in hot form right now any comparisons with soon to be England centurion are wholly inappropriate.

I am by no means a big Beckham fan and I would even doubt the reasoning behind bringing him back to the fold in order for him to reach the 100 mark, but I think it is clear that Becks has pretty much always performed well in an England shirt and is a legend. Bentley on the other hand is not and even though his career at international level started brightly enough I think it would be unwise for anyone to get too carried away.

Although admittedly most of the blathering has been done by the media and not the player or his club supporters. Five years of being stifled at Arsenal didn’t help, but clearly Wenger didn’t see the 23 year old as having the potential to break into the big time in north London. It is interesting to note that at the age of 23 Beckham had already won the Premier League three times, and had a FA Cup winners medal and a Champions League one too. As yet Bentley has pretty much nothing in comparison other than have a couple of good seasons domestically. If the criticism on Beckham was that all he did was cross and take set pieces while winning every trophy under the sun, why should Bentley take his place?

I fancy Bentley to move onwards and upwards from this point on, but for some reason I can’t see him making the jump to the Champions League level.

Correct, Bentley isn’t all that! Glad we offloaded him from Arsenal wasn’t good enough. Blackburn is more his level, but he is not a top four player that’s for sure.

i think u r a piece of crap!!! How the FUKC young players like Bentley goina gain experience at international level if the OLD players (mind :he’s just a showcase figure at LA Galaxy at the moment) like Beckham insisting on getting his 100th cap? Which is important here? the national squat needs some talented young blood not the same old shit? if England is going to improve to be in par with other top international sides, all these sentiments need to be put aside and rejuvenation sld be the priority. and i dont agree that Beckham has more experience in europe and thus he sldnt be replaced by Bentley who is inexperience. how many of Greece players won champions League and domestic league when they OUTCLASSed all the big gun and became EURO 2004 champ? how many Czech Republic players are champion league winners? same old same old.. c’mon guys.. just give sometime for ur brain to think before sayin somethin n stop being emotional and sentimental…

Got something to say?
