Jens Lehmann isn’t mad but he isn’t totally sane either. Recent months have shown him to be something of a menace to society. Sitting sulking on the Arsenal bench as Manuel Almunia deals admirably with oncoming attacks. Jens has also taking to moaning in the press at any given opportunity about this unhappiness at being left out of the side. According to somewhat wild speculation from a tabloid (shock horror) another German could be on his way in to the Emirates.
The Gunners boss is also keen on Barnsley goalkeeper Heinz Muller, who would cost about £2m (The Sun).
This doesn’t really make sense to me for so many different reasons. Firstly the 29 year old keeper has a long term injury problem and could be out for another six months at least and whilst he may be fit next season the injury looks like being one that could threaten his career as a whole. Also the Frankfurt born keeper hardly has an impressive CV, spending a great deal of it in the second division of German football and in the hugely impressive Norwegian league (sarcasm). It’s hard to imagine him even being purchased for a bench role, something that Fabianski could manage well enough anyway. I will leave the final word on this supposed target to Heinz himself.
Commenting following his freak injury and the impact it could have on any potential Premier League move: “There is no way anything will happen now.” (Skysports)
