Spurs boss set to cash in on £10m sulking star?

March 25, 2008

It’s not been a good week for Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas to say the least! Dropped by his club and then by his country, by text no less. And amongst rumours that he threw a bit of a strop after being yanked off at halftime against Chelsea,

Ramos said of Jermaine’s absence from the squad to face Pompey: ‘He’s not injured, he’s fine. I just preferred for him not to play because there were other players who were in better condition.’ (various)

This has led to speculation that JJ is another member of the WHL squad that the Spaniard may decide to offload as he looks to make the north London club look more like his own rather than BMJ’s. Jenas has divided Spurs fans’ opinion of him but looked to have pulled the finger out as Ramos came in, enough to impress Fabio Capello (something which is fast losing its credibility).

But lately it’s been the ‘old JJ’, and that’s poopy pants.

What nonsense. JJ was not fully fit for Chelsea, after twisting his ankle and being stretchered off in the previous match.

For me, the fact of the matter is that JJ has not been a consistent performer. His performances improved when Ramos came in, only to disappear again after the Arsenal game. I will admit that his performances sometimes depend on those of his peers and that he works hard off the ball. But the same old argument arises…. Would Jenas make it in the Top 4? Who do you compare him to?…. A squad player at best.

    Jenas???? more like Penis!!!!

    Get rid!!!!

Over rated!!! cant play more then a Handful of quality games per season and cannot be compared to any midfield player in the top 4 teams!

Ramos wants to play fast, powerful attacking football and you not gonna get that with any of our midfield… Lennon has pace but cant cross a ball to save his life…

Scrap the whole lot….. bring in 5 new midfielders!!

Jenas is fast becoming a liability.

I was shocked at his failure to stamp his authority and self belief in a 50-50 situation with Terry during the second half of the CC Final. Later in the game a similar 50-50 arose between Huddlestone and Terry and our Tom didnt come out second best - no, not by a long shot as Terry’s attempt to bully was firmly brushed aside!

Psycholgically, this was one of the key moments in the game.

I believe that Jenas has potential but his inconsistent level of performance (when he is good he is worthy of the proud Spurs cockerel on his chest but when he is anything less hes about as useful as a pair of sunglasses in the rain).

  8. JJ
    on March 25th, 2008 7:13 pm

Although the potential is there, sadly it’s such a key position that you need a constant performer and he simply hasn’t done that.

I can’t beleive you poeple that stick by Jenas………Do you not see him play? they guy is a poor mans Gerrard, he only plays when he feels like it or when an England team is to be named, the fact that we can count on one hand how many games he has been a star player in tells you that he aint good enough. Ramos is the man and he will kick 65% of the squad out………and he will do this becuase players like, robbo, chimbonda, taino, jenas, zokora, lennon and tommy huddlestone will not win us champ league football…………..just ask yourself if Ferguson or Wenger would have these list of players in his sqaud………….come on guys wake up……….

Akhtar - I don’t want to suggest that Jenas is a great player or that he is suddenly going to start producing the sort of consistently top class performances that were once expected of him.

But I cannot let your criticism of JJ’s Carling Cup final performance go unanswered. Regardless of that one half hearted tackle (I’ll take your word for it but I don’t remember it), JJ’s performance on the day was magnificent. He was the main reason that we dominated midfield. His workrate was extraordinary.

I might also add that JJ was magnificent (even more so) in the two semi final games against Arsenal.

Yes to David Bentley. But he wouldn’t be anything like a replacement for JJ.

JJ You cant fool all of the people all of the time , i am affraid he is not the real article . To play in midfield you need to be a glen hoddle or a roy keane but sadly jj is neither .

What is holding Spurs back is the lack of a genuine midfield General or a creative ball player. Watch ramos change the midfield for next season .

    on March 25th, 2008 11:17 pm

JJ Is simply not good enough. If we are looking at finishing top 4 then he has to go. He is not good enough going forward and the same facing his own goal. A waste of a starting place that seems to hold the team back rather than let it play and go forward. Please let this story be true.

If Spurs are to progress we have to declutter the squad and go again with only the players that can do a job. COYS

Play Huddlestone, he is not perfect but with some experience he will be great.

    New midfield

    Malbranque, Hudd, Zokora, O’Hara.

Until Lennon can learn distribution then he is a waste of time being on the pitch.
Malbranque on the right is the way forwards and if we do play Lennon play him on the left because everytime he has swapped sides this season he has looked much more dangerous.

    on March 26th, 2008 12:04 am

Dan - no way should Zokora be in any team ahead of Jenas. JJ may have his faults but he is twice the player that the Zok will ever be.

Clearly, no one would dispute the fact that JJ is by far the superior player in attack. But he is also better than Zokora when deployed as a defensive midfielder (witness his performance at Pompey earlier this season).

He deserves to be told to fuck off after that pathetic penalty in UEFA cup. All he had to do was blast it down the middle…fucking fairy.

  22. on March 26th, 2008 7:32 am

what about giving jj run out on the right wing. his crossing is better than lennon and maybe the we man needs a rest. still only 19-20 guys. also, in a recent 50-50 tackle jj heard to say in the run up to said tackle”are farts meant to have lumps in?”

  23. Marko
    on March 26th, 2008 8:31 am

I’d play him on the right wing instead of Lennon , Ive been saying this for about a year now.

  24. on March 26th, 2008 9:20 am

i agree with kev,the wanker tried to be fancy and place it against a goalkeeper of that class instead of blasting it like everybody else, the stupid cunt. £10 million? dont make me laugh

I think we should keep JJ but just as a squad player. My main concern is that i hear only five players are untouchable in the summer clear out, and Tommy H isn’t one of them. In my opinion the bloke oozes class and will become an England regualar in years to come. I just hope juande agrees with me, and doesn’t let him go! I hear Sparky Hughes is interested in signing him. What do all you fellow yidos think? Do you agree with me?

    LM - Bale/Capel
RM - Bentley (In ideal world) - Most likely Lennon

Ramos should take another look at Ghaly. If he was fit he would be a real creative midfield asset. A lot of water has flown under the bridge since his tantrum and we have had similar displays from Chimonda and Keane since then . A fresh look at him would be worthwhile, he has real talent.

Jenas is a pretty boy and can not play in a central midfield role, at best he can be a right mid, let him and his best pal lennon fight it out….!!!

People who slag of Zakora need their heads testing/do not have a clue/haven’t played football or just watch it on TV!!! Zokora does all the dirty work for the team, he is an equivalent of Freund, but a little bit better at distribuion. He doesn’t shy out of tackles and covers so much ground, yep he’s not the most technically gifted but he’s much better then anyone else in the team at breaking up play and winning the ball back.

Huddlestone is a better player when Zokora is playing…. because he knows that there is somone to cover his back… unlike Jenas…. Jenas is not the one for us….and Ramos knows it….!!!

To the anonymous Zokora lover - I played football to a reasonably high level; I am a season ticket holder at Spurs (and have been for 16 years); and I have coaching badges. And sorry to contradict you, but I don’t rate Zokora at all as a good modern day holding midfielder.

Zokora simply doesn’t have the discipline or (footballing) intelligence for the role. He is a great athlete, no doubt. He has great pace. But he goes missing all too often. His positioning is atrocious. He never anticipates where the greatest danger lies. He gets drawn out of position with ridiculous ease. He is one of the main reasons why Spurs are so vulnerable in defence.

Michael Carrick is nothing like as good an athlete as Zokora. But Carrick is twice the player because he understands what is required of a holding midfielder and what are the best positions to take up in any given situation. The only player still at Spurs who is capable of playing the role consistently and effectively is Teemu Tainio. Like Carrick, TT cannot compare to Zokora as an athlete. But he is, at least, an intelligent footballer.

Funnily enough, it is with TT as the holding player that Jenas has played his best for Spurs. JJ is at his best when he is free to make runs beyond our strikers (witness his goal in the first leg of the Carling Cup semi). He cannot make such runs with any confidence with a liability like Zokora behind him.

is it true that ramos family is not happy with london life and he might be off at the end of the season

  37. on March 28th, 2008 7:49 am

Anonymous, get the f uck of this site. anyone who things freund is a good player should f uck off. he was no better than the ginger pele and we know how feking class he was:) as for zokora he is way better than fruend(who the f uck aint) but he the only out and out holding player we got so he bound to always start(taino dont count as he prob going) so would love to see diarra or someone of that ilk brought to WHL. that guy gonna be good! also, we need a proper attacking midfielder, someone who scares the crap outta opposing teams. we aint got that yet. (lennon got it sometimes but not consistant)defense is fine if they fit. i would say we need 4 new eperienced midfielders fro each of the midfield positions. lennon to young to be playing every week and thinking he a cert to start, same goes for the hudd. put jenas out right, find a new left winger, new holding midfilelder and new attacking midfielder. lennon, hudd, zokora, o hara, can all be squad players(tarabat still not ready, they should loan him out for a few months). get midfield sorted out and we could make top 4

Got something to say?
