Arsenal defender: ‘We can still win title - honest!’

March 26, 2008

The Gunners’ title dreams are fading fast, yet there’s at least one member of their squad who hasn’t given up yet. Gael Clichy has been one of the most outstanding performers for Arsenal this season and, according to Sky Sports, the French defender can see no reason why his team cannot have a change in fortunes and pip Manchester United and Chelsea at the post. Apart from failing to win any of their past five league matches…

“We may have lost against Chelsea but we played well,” said the left-back.

“The manager is still confident. At the moment, we are alongside Chelsea in the battle to catch Manchester United.

“They are not dropping many points at the moment but there is still a long way to go.

“Honestly, I think Arsenal have the quality to come back from this. We just have to work hard.”

Why have Arsenal gone off the boil? Is it because:

A) They were flattering to deceive in the first place
B) Their squad is threadbare compared to the top two
C) Eduardo has broken his leg
D) They are missing Thierry Henry
E) Adebayor has lost his shooting boots

or

F) Something completely different?

B and E. A is completely ridiculous. to suggest a team that can lead the prem for the majority of the seaon is down to anything but talent is wrong.

No goals from midfield when Ade isn’t scoring. If Ade doesn’t score it’s very hard to see where a goal will come from. Thank God RvP is returning.

People should be fair though, in all likelihood we need to win all of the remaining games to win the league and although it’s unlikely it’s certainly not impossible. If we won all 7 then Utd would have to drop points in two other games and Chelsea in one. Although that makes us dependent on the other teams, like I said if we do win all 7 we probably would win the league. All we can do now though is dispatch Bolton and see how the others do.

gordo - united have to play us and chelsea - that puts a whle different spin on the title race. if we think we can win the league we have o beat united, otherwise we simply won’t win it. so say we do, that cuts the gap down to just three points. if chelsea can hold them to a draw and we win that weekend its just one point!

on the 19th april united are away to blackburn while we play at home to reading. there could be gains for us there quite realistically. on the 26th united are AWAY to chelsea while two days later on the 28th we’re away to derby. so in two weeknds we could be right back in it. BUT WE MUST GET A RESULT ON THE 13th APRIL AT OLD TRAFFORD! or els we are out of the title race. plus side is there champs league game is on the previous wednesday, ours the tueday so an extra day to recover.

the title race is very much alive! we play boloton this wekend - they play villa!

    keep the faith.

Anybody with a brain knows they still have a shout to win it. Why is everyone saying Chelsea are still in it but not Arsenal? How far are they behind Chelsea again? They won’t drop this many points again for a while and will be there or there abouts come the end of the season as will chelsea. . Terrible shame the same cannot be said for Liverpool :-)

at least when we play united - a big game - we can count on ronaldo being anonymous as usual.

    Danny Salford Red.

Momentum is everything in football. United have it, Chelsea have it, Arsenal don’t.

Still a shout if they sort things out quickly and beat United at OT. Big ask considering it comes after three bone crunching ties with Liverpool that will severely stretch their wafer thin squad to the limits.

Can’t see United losing it from here though, to be honest. Scoring the most goals, conceeding the least, fully fit and capable squad and a Manager who won’t let them take their eye of the prize.

“At least when we play united - a big game - we can count on Ronaldo being anonymous as usual”

Are you serious? Ronaldo has scored against Arsenal 3 times in 10 games. That’s a pretty decent record for a winger. But go on rewrite the history books if you like.

big pat - ronaldo’s record against the top four, and in big games in general, is poor. that is actually a well known fact. no re-writting needed, its already down there.

chase - it was just a bit of bante.

note: nothing we write on this forum will actually make any differance to how arsenal do this season - so take that stick out of your ass and lighten up.

“Ronaldo has played 30 Premier League games against Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Everton. In those 30, he has scored just six goals — three each against Arsenal and Everton — at an average of one every five matches.
He has yet to score against Chelsea in seven league games. Against Liverpool, who visit Old Trafford on Sunday, he has yet to find the net in six.
Then there is Ronaldo’s playing record in the Champions League. By no stretch of the imagination can his displays in this competition be compared with the mind-boggling performances he is producing in the Premier League. ”

more facts pat that ronaldo isn’t a big game player - go ahead and google it, its well documented.

more educated opinion pat. but sure were all wrong and you’re right.

“….Ronaldo’s little triumphs in Europe, such as his two goals in last year’s demolition of Roma, are forgettable and while Best was inspired by a rivalry with Eusebio, Kaka, who beat Ronaldo to European and World Footballer of the Year in 2007, dwarfed the Portuguese on the two occasions they went head to head in Champions League knockout ties. Ronaldo’s record on the most important domestic occasions is also sketchy.”

Voyeur needed and needs to spend some of the oodles of cash he has. He chanced his arm this season. Squad is just to shallow. Not over yet, but he really needs to get in the market this summer.

fact is that u guys are just jealous of the lime light ronaldo’s getting. oh come on…give that guy a break…yeah he may not be scoring goals against big teams, but u guys forget 1 thing, even great players like Kaka or Zidane were anonymous in some of their matches, its all part n parcel of tactics, instructions from the manager, maybe ask them to go ‘anonymous’ for the match, so the defenders’ attention will drift away to other players, when that happens, then these players like Kaka, Zidane, Ronaldo..or whoever…will strike…geeez…u guys…hvnt been watching alot of football, hv ya…or u guys watch only English Football….??? geeeezz…..

So i take it Arsenal fans wouldn’t want Ronaldo in their team?! Ok. I suppose you’d much rather have Hleb or Rosicky………………

  18. on March 28th, 2008 3:45 pm

of course id rather have hleb rosicky fabregas or flamini in my team instead of that homo-sapien, and i dont even support the gooners,; chelsea till i die lets smash open the mancs

yes maxiezel, ferguson sometimes tells ronaldo to go ‘anonymous’ and be shit for a game to confuse the opponents.

it takes a special kind of person to say, and actually believe that. wow. i mean, holy shit.

Got something to say?
