Everton set to rise above Liverpool on Sunday?

March 27, 2008

The Toffees may have only lost one league match out of their last eleven but that hasn’t stopped them being made underdogs for Sunday’s derby at Anfield. It’s clear that they’ll be looking for revenge after an unjust 2-1 reverse at Goodison Park earlier in the season, where two Dirk Kuyt penalties gave Liverpool the three points.

Everton keeper is clearly aware of how important this match is, with the official Everton website reporting that the stakes have never been higher for him and his club.

Howard told evertonTV: “I don’t think you ever need any added incentive in derbies but there will be this year because of how close we are.

“We are looking to get a result but that would be the case no matter what.”

Rafael Benitez will certainly have to get his thinking cap on with regard to team selection, especially with three matches against Arsenal following this match, which will also go a long way in determining whether the Reds season will be regarded as a success or not. Can the Toffees get a result? The neutrals will certainly be hoping so.

Why would the neutrals “certainly be hoping so?”
I for one hope Everton crash and burn. They’re a team of cloggers and thugs.

Everton should be above Liverpool had it not been for their no1 fan, mr. Clatt, refereeing a game he had no buissness being in charge of. Everton have more movement, more passing in their game, they may well win but fatigue is a factor since evertons squad is smaller.

Who are the thugs exactly ? Osman, Pienaar, Arteta ? They´re a midfield of midgets.

I think the neutrals want the underdog to win. Respective monies spent on team building and Liverpool cannot even break into the Big 3. Liverpool should really look at the mis-management over the years. They are not big anymore and the truth hurts them.

the reason thier underdogs is because liverpool are better and it is at anfield

anyway liverpool are just a few levels above everton with torres and gerrard i dont think arteta and yakubu could scratch the surface

Should F.C TESCO / EVERTON manage a win on Sunday it will make little difference on the outcome of fourth place, they’re just not good enough to sustain their good run of form between now and the end of the season. As the last couple of weeks have proved against FULHAM and WEST HAM the cracks are beginning to show in the side both physically and mentally, they just don’t have the bottle… the only chance they will ever have of champions league football, has come and gone and they bottled that too.. couldn’t even make the group stages… Everton fans need to get over themselves, they’ve had a good season by all small club standards…

HOBBES: You are moron…define thugs? Could this be bullying, i.e. repeatedly telling a ref to F off?? hmmm…you know where this one is going!!

    MICK BANNON: Well said!

DAVE: Can you tell me how exactly the RS are better? two points difference at this stage of the season with a defineing game to go

EDDIE WALKER: What in the f**c was that? Does anybody actually know what this prick is talking about? Go back to the methodone!!

GHOST OF EMLYN: Why are we not good enough to sustain it? Everton have been more consistent this year, more so agains the big 3 than the RS have. You ‘run’ of 7 wins….the league games within that provided very little in way of good teams and I also think that ‘run’ includes 2 games against milan where they had players sent of….suprise! Yes we have had to poor / average games recently, but the boys will be up to it…this game will depend on whether Everton are on their game now, not the RS im afraid. RS fans are the bitters, bitter that they get nothing for their money, whilst we spend little with similar returns, bitter that they think they can challenge for the title when they clearly cant, Bitter that there is no longer a gap between their fierce rivals and bitter that their manager cannot compare to the Moysiah!!

Oh DAZ that was such a rant… I’ll admit you nearly made sense till your delusional theory on the game depending on which everton turns up.. I’m not so sure about getting nothing for our money i mean Fernando Torres is worth every penny we paid and is the best striker in the premiership at the moment.. As for the title, I’ll agree a mere pipe dream at the moment, but at least we have, as Rafa would say ,possibilities for the future and the champions league is a nice second to it… And yeah for very little money ye have assembled a tidy team and in Cahill and Arteta ye have got two very good bargains.. but then again TESCOS always had the best deals didn’t they…
