Liverpool fans can breathe a sigh of relief - Torres should be fit for Sunday!

March 27, 2008

It appears that Fernando Torres will be sampling his first Merseyside derby on Sunday, with Rafael Benitez not only confirming that the Spaniard should be fit for this crucial fixture, but also hinting that he’s not likely to be rested either. Setanta reports that Liverpool’s manager continues to be slightly critical of the treatment his star striker received at Old Trafford, but is confident that they player can make an impact against their Merseyside rivals.

“We saw that every time he went for the ball on Sunday he was put under a lot of pressure, but at this moment I think he will be fit for Sunday,” said Benitez.

“He lost one day with Spain but he’s back now and I think he will be ready for the game, and hopefully he’ll then be available for us on Sunday.”

It’s clear that ‘El Nino’ can expect plenty of fierce tackling against Everton, let’s just hope that the passion of the players doesn’t spill over into something ugly, as we’ve seen in the past fortnight. It’s clear that Liverpool have formed something of a reliance on Torres as far as goals are concerned, will he be the difference between the two teams on Sunday?

It looks like Rio didn’t accomplish what he did to Morientes when they first met , although it wasn’t for a lack of trying. However, FT is nursing some pain and the game against Italy didn’t help him to heal as Mat. took out some revenge on him for being sent off in the Champions League match last month.

Well good news. Must admit I was concerned Torres was included from the start for Spain but he came through OK so should be fine for Sunday. On a different point, surely it’s time Crouch was recalled and played from the start. He looked sharp when coming on for England and, with Gerrard and Torres featuring for their countries for longer and playing more game recently, surely the time is right to unleash Crouch against Everton??

Liverpool once again living up to the title of Victim FC. You got well beaten and Torres was shit.

If one robust tackle turns him that shit then I’d ask for your money back.

Got something to say?
