I think it’s safe to say that those who were unduly optimistic about Adel Taarabt may have had their collective wings clipped yesterday as for half and hour he showboated and added very little to the side who plummeted to a 4-1 defeat.
To be fair it seems far too much pressure has been placed on the young Frenchman’s shoulders and it showed in that inept cameo at White Hart Lane. You could compare and contrast with Arsenal’s latest young protégé Carlos Vela.
The 19 year old Mexican has in many ways ‘been there and done that’ in comparison to Adel. Having had an impressive season at Second division Salamanca Vela was loaned out again for a season in the top flight at Osasuna and by all accounts he has been inspirational for the Pamplona based side. His efforts have kept the minnows above the dreaded relegation zone and have won admirers in Spain. He has also been capped at full international level.
Taarabt in comparison hasn’t even managed a first team start. I am sure that Adel will come back stronger following this disappointment and maybe fans will learn to not over burden a player with expectations, especially one who is so young. Ramos will also do well to blood him more often in this closing matches now that relegation is more or less nothing to worry about.
Good news is, both north London sides have a lot to look forward to!
