Michael Owen yesterday played ‘in the hole’ against Spurs, playing a large role in the 4-1 romp Newcastle enjoyed at White Hart Lane and prompting his gaffer Kevin Keegan to predict that he will get an international recall from Fabio Capello sooner than later. Keegan said:
“Fabio Capello needs asking why he hasn’t played Michael because only he knows.
“When the big games come, Michael will play.”
Owen is playing well, but he’ll have to do better than playing well against a sleepwalking Spurs team to convice Fabio that he should partner Wayne Rooney upfront.
