If ever a player displayed all the hall marks of getting too big for his boots it’s David Bentley! The target of both Ramos and Benitez, if you believe the press, has been spouting rubbish for weeks now. If he is not laying into his former Arsenal employers, sour grapes, he is laying into other sides as well as his own!
Commenting on the recent England friendly with France Blackburn star Bentley commented: “A lot of the lads are preparing themselves for the Premier League and the Champions League so it can be difficult to play a game like that for both sides. It was a half hearted, 50 per cent effort. Everyone wants to play well for England but sometimes it just happens like that.It wasn’t enjoyable for me but you try to have an effect on the game, but it is difficult to get into a game like that.” (Daily Mail)
Bentley has also laid the way to a move away from Ewood Park with some truly un-subtle ‘come and get me’ pleas! “Time will tell over the next few months what will happen. It’s a big decision in my life. You never know in football. Sometimes you have to make strong decisions.” (BBC Sport)
It does seem that on this occasion DB has a point, but in saying that making such comments may see him fall foul of Fabio Capello who clearly doesn’t like to hear the back chat of the players. Still think both Spurs and Liverpool should steer clear though.
