What’s Eating Gilberto Silva?
by Dexter on April 12th, 2008Arsenal go into Sunday’s game against Manchester United, still licking their wound’s from a nasty three game stint against Liverpool. They are out of Europe, have frittered away their five point lead, and now have to go to Old Trafford without Mathieu Flamini, who has a gammy ankle.
Brazil captain Gilberto Silva will step into the Frenchman’s shoes, but their is a growing stream of criticism that Gilberto is fading fast, slows down the game, and is a poor replacement for Flamini. Gilberto’s talent hasn’t so much faded, as utterly imploded, and although he should be applauded for taking his drop down the pecking order like a man (unlike moanmeister Jens Lehmann) , he will be a big ladder in the tights of Arsenal’s midfield.

A gooner with some sense - playing eboue in midfield has to be the daftest thing…he was a great right back, but in midfield… how many of your attacks breakdown with him?

Its easy to criticise the decision to put gilberto in place of the injured flamini but honestly, what other option do we have?diaby is suspended, denilson injured, so its song or gilberto, experience gets the vote.
