Nobody can accuse Arsenal of failing to provide value for money this season, unless you’re a supporter who is unhappy that the club have failed to land any silverware this term. It’s generally acknowledged that the Gunners have played the most entertaining brand of football in the Premier League all year, with Sky Sports reporting that Robin Van Persie believes crowd pleasing is what the game is all about.
“For me, the basic of football is to give enjoyment to people. That’s where it starts,” the Dutchman said. “We are like 11 actors, we have to give enjoyment to people buying a ticket.
“We will not change our philosophy now. Yes, at the end of season, people might say: ‘Arsenal played great football yet won nothing?’
“But there are a lot of teams who didn’t play so well and didn’t win anything either. This is the way we think football has to be played.
“We really think that we can win things with our way of playing – with our approach to the game.
“We have to stick with our own ideas and our own way of playing football. I don’t want to change because I really believe we can win things, big things, with this style of football.”
It’s generally considered that the reason for Arsenal’s title shortcomings are more to do with the form of Manchester United and Chelsea, allied to the injuries they’ve experienced, than their style of football. Indeed, for most of the season, they have outpassed the opposition, while also providing a cutting edge up front. Neutral football fans will surely be hoping that Arsenal come back stronger than ever next season, playing their way to a well-deserved league title.
