The Press Association have reported that Gary Megson praised his battling Bolton team after their slender 1-0 win over West Ham on Saturday. Quite whether it will be enough to keep them in the Premier League is another matter, with the Trotters still two points from safety and with a rather pathetic goal difference.
“It was a terrific result, a terrific performance, given the circumstances,” Megson said. “There are a lot of positives to come from this and it (the result) was fully deserved.”
He added: “The players deserve great credit not just for the way they played but in the circumstances in which they played because we didn’t just battle, scrap and run and fight we actually played it on quite a few occasions.
It was probably the easiest fixture his team could have asked for, against a Hammers team with one eye on grabbing a last minute booking at the travel agents ahead of the summer. Bolton’s four remaining matches include trips to Middlesbrough, Tottenham and Chelsea – they’ll hope the latter aren’t still chasing the title on the last day of the season and it’s still a big old ask to see the Lancashire club staying in the top flight come the end of the season.
