Berbatov’s Tottenham career looks all over, red rover
by stresster on April 17th, 2008It’s been a memorable two seasons for Tottenham fans, not least because Dimitar Berbatov has lit up their lives with some excellent goals and all-round silky performances. However, all good things come to an end and the Daily Mail have reported that contract talks between player, agent and club have irrevocably broken down.
Agent Emil Dantchev said: “His future will be decided in the next couple of months. We have twice given up talks about Berbatov’s new contract and this is due to the fact that Tottenham are unwilling to fix Berbatov’s transfer price.
“He is 27-years old and he needs to win trophies. It is time he was transferred to a club that regularly plays in the Champions League. There are seven to eight clubs in Europe interested and we know them well.”
Tottenham fans, what is your favourite memory of Berba? Without him, it’s probable that Spurs wouldn’t have won the Carling Cup this season, especially as it was his penalty that brought him level against Chelsea. What are the chances of him joining another Premier League club such as Manchester United or even Chelsea?

Nothing is solid as this crap always comes from that prick dantchev’s mouth who to me is just looking for a big pay-out, although he may just be acting on Berba’s words. we’ve got him on a 2 year contract plus 2 extension so I think we should just keep him at least for 1 more season, qlthough Berba may go back to playing crap and being stroppy and we might get a lot less for him but that means so will his agent which i would’nt mind. (dantchev’s a Knob)!!!!!!!!!!!!

Two things are certain - every player woudl like to play in the Champions Leauge and every agent would like to make millions for doing nothing. The facts are that unless clubs outside the champions league stick to their guns and keep their best players then nothing will ever change and the Premier League will become even more like the Scottish League.
Spurs should not sell Berbatov. Part of the reason why this agent thinks he can get away with this agitation is that Spurs sold Carrick to Manchester United and are seen as a selling club now. The Carrick sale proved to be a big mistake as Spurs have never been able to fill the gap he left, which has undoubtedly cost them much more than the transfer fee they recieved. What Spurs should do instead is to sue Dantchev for deliberately trying to unsettle their player. One successful action of this kind would deal with agent agitation once and for all.

Im in 2 minds about this one. At the end of the day if he doesnt want to be at spurs then I say let him go and make some money but bobs point is absolutely spot on. What hope have anyone got of progressing if they just sell all their best players to the big 4 and the like

“Without him, it’s probable that Spurs wouldn’t have won the Carling Cup this season, especially as it was his penalty that brought him level against Chelsea.”
What? Without him it would have been a different game, full stop.
However statistically over 75% of spot kicks in Premiership play have resulted in goals.
That would suggest that Spurs would be more likely to have still won (by virtue of still being likely in percentage terms, to score the penalty regardless of who took it vs a keeper who had failed to save either of the spot kicks he had faced in the league), and still having Woodgate (the MOTM by the way) scoring the winner in open play.
As for Berbatov himself. Bye bye. His agent is a knob, but he hasn’t pledged allegiance to the badge, and certainly for all his brilliance he hasn’t exactly been pouring it on when times were hard (pre Jol sacking) or when the season was “as good as over” i.e. after the UEFA Cup exit. So he can go. Abroad. And if Fergie was interested last year, I very much doubt he would be now after seeing Berbatov’s true colours this year, with his attitude and lack of commitment week in, week out. He got Tevez instead, and he probably is quite happy at the result. So selling him to another Premiership club is probably less of a concern. As far as Dantchev’s comment regarding “seven or eight clubs” being interested goes… I’d like to know who. My guess is three of the following eight suggestions would love to have him, but probably can’t afford him. Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Juve, Inter, Bristol City, Northampton Town, Grimsby!!!

Lets face it he is a great player –certainly one of the best Spurs have ever had. He makes it all look so simple which only the really great player can do, and even for fans of other clubs he is a joy to watch.. Clearly his agent’s interests are cash and since that is the way modern soccer has gone then Spurs should name the price 40 million and then only sell him to a continental club if he wants to go. Anything else would reward Man Utd or Chelsea for their appalling behaviour on this issue. For that amount Spurs could get 3-4 really top young players not over the hill foreigners that we see them connected with. Youth is coming to the fore in the Premiership as many young players are really skilled and quick learners and mature rapidly under a good manager. I would really like to see Spurs still maintain an emphasis on British youth.
