Oh, the irony. Without Fernando Torres, it’s fair to say that Liverpool would be out of the Premier League title race (what’s that, they fell behind in December?), while it’s unlikely they’d be facing Chelsea in the semi-finals of the Champions League. The young Spaniard has been a goalscoring sensation during his first season in English football, with the Reds massively reliant on him for their goals.
But what’s this? A pot calling a kettle black? The Sun reports that El Nino has been praising Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of United’s European encounter with Barcelona, claiming that the Red Devils have regularly been all about one player.
Torres, 24, said: “I watch Ronaldo every weekend and he is massively impressive. He carries United on his back in some matches. Barca have no idea how spectacular Ronaldo is or how far ahead of every other player in the world he is right now. But if they keep the ball away from him Barca will get to the Champions League final.”
We’re sure that Wayne Rooney would have something to say about those comments. Nando might also want to consider watching some Liverpool match videos of recent seasons, when captain Steven Gerrard has got the team by the scruff of the neck and hauled them through the match.
Is Torres right to insinuate that keeping Ronaldo quiet is the key to beating United or are they about far more than just one player?
