Arsenal fans sang ‘We won the league in Manchester’ and then ‘We won the league at White Hart Lane’ when they landed league titles at Old Trafford and Tottenham a few seasons ago. Will it now be the turn of Manchester United fans to sing ‘We won the league at Stamford Bridge’? Wayne Rooney certainly hopes that this will be the case, with Sky Sports reporting that the striker would love to secure the title in the backyard of their title rivals.
“If it was possible to win it at Blackburn, we’d take that,” Rooney said. “But if we can win at Chelsea it would be great for everyone at the club, especially the fans.
“We know that if we win our next two games then we are champions and it’s something that all the players are ready for.
“It’s always nice to win against one of your closest rivals, and to win at Stamford Bridge would be brilliant.”
It would also serve as some kind of revenge for Rooney and his United chums after they were beaten 3-0 at the Bridge in 2006, which effectively led to Chelsea winning the league. It was also the game where the United striker broke his metatarsal, something which deprived him of full fitness for the 2006 World Cup.
