Arsenal fans forget Flamini! Wenger has a perfect £15m replacement in mind!
by Mr Comfort on April 29th, 2008Well it is looking increasingly more likely that the Flamster has done a ‘Marseille’ on them, well he had previous but even I thought he wouldn’t do it again. You have to question a player who has now sold two clubs down the river after claiming he just needed time and all was fine, well worry not because Arsene has a readymade replacement that could fit in well at the Emirates.
The People says Gunners manager Arsene Wenger is weighing up a move for Aston Villa’s £15m rated England midfielder Gareth Barry as he appears resigned to losing Frenchman Mathieu Flamini.
Now Gareth Barry may not instantly look like a ‘Wenger’ like player but I reckon he could be just what the club needs. The guy has bags of experience, good vision, an eye for goal and grit and determination in abundance and above all else he is now at his peak. He could be just the kind of player who will help the Gunners very youthful side tick along nicely, what do Arsenal fans think? Also how do they feel about Flamini’s behaviour!

i’d rather have flamini, i think he can still grow as a player, but is already outstanding, where as barry is at his full potential. great player, but flamini will be world class.
siddhu - April 29th, 2008 at 6:59 pm
i think flamini has done a brilliant job and it would be wrong to criticize him after playing like a lion in every single match
Ian - April 29th, 2008 at 7:16 pm
I really like Flamini, he always works hard and never shierks a tackle. I’d like to see him stay but if he wants to go I say bugger off then! How many of our former players thought they were worth more than the rest and tried to hold out for more? I’d say almost all of them have found out that the grass wasn’t greener elsewhere even if they were on more money.
I think Barry would make a fine replacement for a few years with the bonus that he’s English. We’ll need him if FIFA bring in the 6 homegrown players rule.
Chris - April 29th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
I think barry is a good player, but i do love to have flamini staying at emirate bcos i think he has a strong spirit of playing games than barry.
Ejike Eya - April 29th, 2008 at 7:40 pm
D guy (flamini) should stay or we will be on the road of selling another good player without replacement. Barry is good but is not a replacement for Flams. Just remember Veira, Ljunberg, Pires
gt - April 29th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
I don’t mind seeing Barry in Arsenal’s uniform, but his price will be prohibitively expensive.
Joy of cesc - April 29th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
Barry’s a good player. But he seems a bit one-paced to me. The Flamster’s best quality is his energy to run everywhere like a maniac. I can;t see Barry replacing that.
CaribKid - April 29th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
I think Barry would be a good addition to to Arsenal but £15m is just too much. English players tend to be overpriced and Arsene is very financially conscious.
At £10 he would be considered because we need to spend in other areas and also have a host of potential replacements from within the squad in the form of Song, Denilson, Diaby, Toure and Djourou.
simon the wise - April 29th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
Am I the only one who would be glad to see the back of Flamini. I think he is average and always caught in possession and has given some crucial goals away this year. SEE YA
Another wise guy - April 29th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
Well simon the wise, you obviously haven’t been watching any of Arsenal’s games this season. SEE YA
Another wise guy - April 29th, 2008 at 11:30 pm
i’d much rather see someone like miguel veloso or mavuba as a replacement. someone who, like flamini, is still young and isn’t at his peak yet. which barry definitely is and he’s still not at the level of the likes of essien, flamini, diarra, mascherano, which flamini, veloso and mavuba are still going to reach in my opinion.
Another wise guy - April 30th, 2008 at 12:31 am
always liked flammini but denilson can do it now
Another wise guy - April 30th, 2008 at 12:32 am
also its diabys natural position
holte ender - April 30th, 2008 at 1:07 am
you will never get him
Matt - April 30th, 2008 at 1:18 am
As Always Arsenal sell top players because they are narrow minded …. what the hell AW will probably get another 5 future potential 16 year olds for Flaminis fee!!!!
This has been Arsenal’s downfall for 40 years….never wanting to pay the money that real big time clubs pay to keep their best players happy….and it has cost us so many trophies it’s sad!!!!!
bergy - April 30th, 2008 at 4:39 am
barry?
come on ..just a very bad rumour.
some people really go mad reading all these nonsense rumours..
its not football manager
Barry? - April 30th, 2008 at 6:14 am
Barry is at his peak that’s mean he can’t reach even better. But Flamini is still young and got lot of things to develop and if he stayed, I’m pretty sure that he’ll be one of the best world class midfielder in the future under the guidance of ‘professor’ Wenger.
fidza - April 30th, 2008 at 6:47 am
Matt, you don’t go out of your way to try and please every player. As a manager you should work within your means and be able to take control of every situation. Flamini played wll this season, but can not demand a very high wage coz he now thinks he is a top class player. Let him do the Marseille on us if he has to. Personally I am indifferent about it. You only need games for people to see what you can do and luckily he got that this season. Someone will come in and od the job. He is Italian/ French coz father is I don’t know, next he is african coz mother is is Asian with African origins…
RayparlourforPresident - April 30th, 2008 at 7:12 am
I like Flamini as a player however I think we need not to get ahead of ourselves, if he goes it isn’t as big a loss as losing Hleb, Fabegas or Rosicky for example.
Although Flamini is an excellent defensive midfielder and allows Cesc to get forward more, it is an opportunity for other players to step up to the plate
Diaby has been disappointing for me however this is because he has so many flashes of genius that, with regular football I think he would be a perfect replacement and he needs to play in the right position.
The most important thing is to keep Hleb, get Rosicky fit enough to play a season and buy a centre back, move Eboue back to Right back (where he has always played well) and buy some more squad players to bring through or, play Walcott more often, bring Vela back from Spain and give some of the youth team their chance at the big time. We have some pretty quality players in our youth and reserves.
If we are going to buy up front I think we should rid the club of Bendtner, he is crap, Adebayor hates him and we should sell him whilst we can still make some money on him.
I do agree that barry is worth looking at though, if nothing else because he is English and talented and a real workhorse like Flamini, it would keep Diaby out of the side though
RayparlourforPresident - April 30th, 2008 at 7:13 am
speaking of forwards isn’t Drogba on the way out of Chelsea?
future - April 30th, 2008 at 7:22 am
flammini = biaby
gilberto = denilson
eboue = bazarite
would like some more exp in the squad- chuk it on the right midfield and centre back
Al - April 30th, 2008 at 7:54 am
What - Wenger buying someone over 17 years old? You must be joking!
tomstoned - April 30th, 2008 at 9:28 am
flamini……great player but with absolutely no team loyalty….he’s a fake who we should be glad to get rid off….to even mention him in the same regard as Milans Gattuso is far fetched….and i most certainly would be glad to see flamster disapeear for good ……
replacement……..here i can only agree with others let Diaby get the chance…
best buy…………….Robinho….he would light up the Emirates,,,,
we have had a great season…….

Why not pay Flamini a signing on fee, seems quite simple to me
brian the gooner - April 30th, 2008 at 10:17 am
No way Barry.An average,vastly over-rated English player.
Lat year at this time no one would have batted an eyelid if Flamini left but now everyone seems so concerned. He has only done it for this season so who knows if he’s only a one-season wonder.
israel - April 30th, 2008 at 10:36 am
please i want you arsene to keep flamini after that buying barry is not a crime. please in all i want arsene to sign a left winger preferrable robhino and a striker please grab villa
GUUNERULETHEWORLD - April 30th, 2008 at 10:37 am
I HATE TRAITORS SIMPLE AS
Geoff strong - April 30th, 2008 at 11:00 am
In the mind of Arsene Wenger…………..
I will have Vela to play wide, keep Hleb, get Rosicky fit and buy Ben Arfa….. that will do for the attacking 3rd. ( I’ve got Adebayor, Bendtner, Van Persie, Walcott & Eduardo).
Buy a centre half who can head the ball, to add to Sagna, Clichy, Toure, Gallas, Eboue, Song, Djourou, Traore, Nordveit….. defense sorted.
Centre Midfield ……….. Fabregas, Denilson, Diaby, Gilberto, (Song & Djourou can also play in front of back four)….. no problem.
Goalkeepers Almunia, Fabianski, buy 1 more as cover
plus any more of my kids coming through.
Lose Lehmann, Senderos Flamini and Hoyte
£20 million net spend………….job done !
D - April 30th, 2008 at 11:49 am
Geoff Strong - Simply put….YOU FAIL!!!
matyhieu - April 30th, 2008 at 12:00 pm
its unbelievable, wenger cant spend 15mil on an english player he would rather have his fellow sulkeing frenchman abouy diaby experiment as a replacement. thats why arsenal ha sdone nothing notable in europe. imagine a uniteed bench with anderson, nani and hargreaves on it. please who is abou diaby, who is nicklas bendtner pls. ass for flamster he can fck off u dont get superstar pay after one good season. 55k is good enough u aint cesc its a team sport. gallas should relegated to the bench or sold, toure has been suspect since the pharoes made him look……………
Nino Santoro - April 30th, 2008 at 12:14 pm
guys guys guys….Of course flamini has been brilliant and it’s a shame he is going to Milan but I don’t think it’s really about the money but of where he is going.Like many others he will be stuck on the bench and then regret leaving a brilliant young team with just a matter of time before start winning every year silverwere. With regards to buys.We all know wenger will be wise in his spending but he will try and get Robinho and ben arfa I think although I would seriously get one or two centre backs, and maybe a top class keeper. Are problems are at the back and not the rest.abou Diaby and denilson can play the middle if they stay fit along with rosicky and Hleb don’t forget. My priority would be goalkeeper and the 2 centrebacks(Zapata,Micah Richards and Baloy,Caceres).Get rid of that twat of eboue with lehmann, gilberto, senderos and this team will start flying as long as he finally styicks with theo and Robinho.God help them all…
arden - April 30th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
Flamini’s a very good player but if he wants to go then he should go. I dunno if Barry’s a good enough replacement though. Sure he’s good but world class? I’m not sure. It’s all specualation, I think. It’s not Wenger’s style to shed out that much money especially if he could get someone half the price and better
ola - April 30th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
how can any of you who says diaby and denilson can take flamini’s place, and his role in the team, call them selves an Arsenal fan?
Nicholas Havi - April 30th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
Come on guys! we don’t at all accept traitors in our lovely team! If Flamini feels he is now a superstar, let him leave and let him go away and rot away.I have strong believe in Wenger that he will make another groundbreaking signing to replace him! What is happening to Henry will automatically fall on him. Cesc, Walcott, Robin, Clichy, Sagna, Eduardo n the rest are there to make us proud next season!!! Good luck the gunners.

How Arsenal Lost The League
Blackburn 1-1 should have won
Liverpool 1-1 Should have won
Newcastle 1-1 Couldn’t hold on 2 the lead
Birmingham 1-1 should have won
Birmingham 2-2 should have won
Aston Villa 1-1 Clumsy Senderos
Wigan 0-0 should have won
Middlesbrough 1-1 Poor Defending As Usual
Chelsea 2-1 Couldn’t hold on 2 the lead
Liverpool 1-1 should have won
Man U 2-1 did not take R chances gave away cheap set-pieces lost concentration and fucked up.
Arsenal R overrated why because they cant defend they cant kill off teams they have a average Keeper a winger who’s scared 2 shoot and another who rarely scores the first goal and injury prone on top of that. But what makes it worst is that because AW has done so much for the club he is now exempt from criticism simply because ‘’Arsene Knows’’ as they say just because he has done so much that does not mean U shouldn’t question his decisions if he know’s so much explain why he would persist with Senderos or Eboue why he did not sign Wodgate & Anelka (in January) and sent Bendtner on loan why he did not rest key player’s who were clearly getting tired why he did not let Diarra go on loan instead of letting him go completely and than excusing it by claming he had enough players in that position why did he allow such a key player in Flamini 2 run out his contract like that why does he continue 2 tell the world his players r young and still learning lets see shall we Almuina 30 Sagna 25 Gallas 30 Toure 27 Hleb 26 Rosicky 27
The rest R 24 apart from Clichy & Fabregas who R the only ones who U could call kids!!! why has he got inexperienced player’s who he clearly does not trust why does he builds teams that have almost no competition for places since the players on the bench R 2 young and still learning there trade.

And there I was beleiving Barry when he said he was a Spurs fan all his life.
gunnergeorge - April 30th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
The only way barry would fit in to the Arsenal way of playing is if Wenger sees him as a potential centre back. Doesnt have the passing or mobility to play in the current Arsenal midfield
A_goon - May 1st, 2008 at 3:21 pm
as much as i want 2 believe this story, i think barry will choose liverpool. he will be infuenced buy steven gerrard who is a close friend. he has also welcomed the decision 2 take barry to anfield
Robby 7 - May 1st, 2008 at 3:38 pm
dont be soo silly why are we getting so worked up about an average player?? Barry’s good complementing a defensive midfield but hes not in the Wenger’s Arsenal class. Hes more likely bring Diaby in to the middle as 2 wide players are coming in this close season
to those who want Barry in Arsenal colours you may rethink when you find out he is a Spurs fan!
clockendjim - May 1st, 2008 at 4:20 pm
I would be sorry to see Flamini leave, he has been great for us this season. However it will not be a disaster as we have so much cover in midfield and I believe Denilson for one can come through as an ideal replacement. I also think it will be a case of ‘far fields looking greener’ and Flamini will come to regret leaving such a great club where he has been so nurtured by Wenger who turned him from a very ordinary player to what he is today. Thanks for the gratitude Mathieu .
However I regard Barry as just about the best midfielder outside of Arsenal. He has the work ethic of Flamini, but a greater passing ability and a surer eye for a shot at goal. He has scored 8 goals against Flamini’s 3. It would e a good move for Barry himself because I am sure he would develop into the Arsenal style and become our own Stephen Gerrard.
Even if the deal was possible, can Wenger be cured of his Icantspendanymoneyitis disease ?
He owes some significant signings to the fans who have helped build up such a huge bank balance for the club. I go to the Emirates regularly and it would be foolish for the club to underestimate the frustration that truly exists among the fans - I was shocked by all the empty seats around me at the Reading match - a real warning sign
lol - May 7th, 2008 at 8:23 am
its so sad to see flamini go…
well at least its not fabregas or hleb…arsenal really needs them
