Spurs to bid for £40m superstar that would surely make Berbatov reconsider leaving!
by Mr Comfort on April 29th, 2008No one can doubt Tottenham’s ambitions and now that Luka Modric has arrived it appears that more plans are afoot to smash the transfer record at White Hart Lane.
Tottenham boss Juande Ramos has dramatically hinted at his very real interest in bidding for £40m rated Barcelona star Samuel Eto’o.
“You cannot do anything overnight, since it is a project that we undertake for the next five seasons, and for great achievements we need big players like Eto’o and Modric, just to move.” (Sportske Novosti)
Could it happen? Eto’o is not happy at Barcelona and it does seem possible he will leave, but could it really happen that he would move to Spurs? JR is clearly a well respected boss, especially in Spain where he did such a marvelous job at Sevilla, maybe the Cameroonian sees that with the right investment Tottenham could become a force to be reckoned with. What do WHL fans think, could it really happen? Surely this kind of signing or even the hint of such a signing should keep Berbs from heading for the exit.

personally i dont think we would have both berba and eto’o if so tho it would be incredible plus get diego capel a defensive mid and new goalie we will be incredible
scorpion - April 29th, 2008 at 7:52 pm
Excuse me while I stop laughing. No way Eto’o comes to our club. These rumors are getting a little thin on credibility. To start with we do not have the budget for him plus Berbatov and would have to sell Berba to afford the purchase. So what’s the point? We lose 15M on the exchange and get what seems to me the same quality player.
Let’s use the funds we have to improve the whole team instead of putting all of our eggs in a couple of baskets.
I like the Modric purchase and 3 more of his ability at different positions would be more to my liking than dumping all of it on Eto’o.
u chumps - April 29th, 2008 at 7:59 pm
WTF did u get 40million from ?
Try Eto+£10million swap deal for Berbatov!
NYSpursFan - April 29th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
Slow news day today? I shan’t repeat what scorpion already said. Right on.
stoney - April 29th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
u chump. It’s called an injection of capital. ENIC, the parent company, put the money in. You obviously know nothing about business. Stick to delivering the post rather than reading them.
Morgan. - April 29th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
It will not happen!!!!! And if it did i’d rather have Keane and Berba over Eto any day!
bradley coomes - April 29th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
sod eto get villa then if berbatov gose then get eto
BUT U STAND MORE CHANCE TO GET VILLA
scorpion - April 29th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
Stoney is living up to his nickname. You really shouldn’t “post” when you’re stoned. And what I’m “reading” from you is a completely unintelligent bunch of crap.
FYI an infusion of capital is meant to improve your product or can sometimes be used as a loss leader to eventually improve your product. How does spending 40M on a player just substituted for a 17 year old in the CL semi final game justify spending that kind of money? Thankfully our club runs on a profit basis and considers how and when to spend. Maybe you should become a Chelsea fan then your business acumen might be better received by the “chumps” that might accept your drivel.
[with_teeth] - April 29th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
Villa and Eto shouldn’t even be considered until Bent leaves. More over.. if Berbatov leaves we don’t need several pacey strikers to replace him. We need a good solid centre forward that is comfortable on the ball.
Also if we pay £40mil for Eto i’ll consider it to be extremely poor scouting as I can name several players available for less than half that price that are better in ability , potential and quality.
I bid you good day!

is all about villa id eto goes but personally i dont think u can get a better partnership with keane and berbatov
Peter - April 29th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
I did watch Man Utd and Barca today and Eto was not even close to behave like a good football player so I really hope this is just BS.
Kind Regards Peter Olsson Spurs fan from Sweden
Drew Vader - April 29th, 2008 at 11:17 pm
i’ll ask again….are spurs trying to become the next chelski?? throwing crazy money around in a desperate attempt to claim long lost honors?
Drew Vader - April 29th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
before i get ripped, i’ll say that, at least we could count on spurs, even if they do become the new chelski, actually playing good football and not boring people to death.
Enorme Nuez - April 30th, 2008 at 12:43 am
Seriously where do you come up with this? Ronaldinho is being touted as a £31m buy and you have Eto’o will cost £9m more?
Ramos spends a large amount of money on a forward based in Spain it’ll be for Valencia’s David Villa. That won’t help the Darren Bent situation; he has proven he can score when given an opportunity. Villa is too similar to Keane than as a replacement for Berbatov.
Show Berba we mean business by spending the money wisely on needed positions: left-midfield, defensive midfielder, and a centre-back.
holte ender - April 30th, 2008 at 1:01 am
ya shit villa are so gooooooooooood we will piss all over u next season
Spiderbait - April 30th, 2008 at 2:36 am
The only way Eto’o will come to WHL is in a swap for Berba so this article is a load of wishful thinking. Ramos has stated that he needs to sell players to buy players and after 15m for Modric the only way Spurs would have the monkey for anyone of this caliber is to sell Dimitar. Lets be realistic here, i wanna see us sign quality but Eto’o and Berba not a chance, besides who would drop Keane at the moment, he is way to potent to drop to the bench even for half the games.
JD - April 30th, 2008 at 4:14 am
eto`o to my belief would be too much a similar player to bent and we already have this chump !! klaas - jan huptelaar would be a better buy definitly the next nestlerooy .
JD - April 30th, 2008 at 4:16 am
your clock needs reset 1 hour fella !!!! i have sent this in at 5:14 am
jont - April 30th, 2008 at 6:48 am
What a con. How is eto 40 mil, whebn berbs is only 25?
eto = modric + berbs
Give me a break. Villa for 16 mill, don’t know how true this is, but that is a much better exchange.
EngNor - April 30th, 2008 at 7:37 am
Agree with Scorpions first post. Although, if we are in the market for a Berbs replacement? I`d put my money in D.Villa. And use the cash to bring in players to strengthen the squad in the obvious positions.
I for one would be gutted to see Berbatov go, as i think he is of the same mold as Sheringham, and if he can be consistent for 90mins without moaning he would be a far better and creative footballer.
COYS!
Adam - April 30th, 2008 at 7:46 am
you are all nuts, eto is not going to want to go to tottenham as he wants to play champions league football and forget about villa he wants to play for arsenal or liverpool as that is what he said, eto is a winner and will not want to waste his time at such a small club, everton and aston villa are bigger that tottenham.
Anonymous - April 30th, 2008 at 9:02 am
adam get back up that tree son you know sweet fa about football
dna88 - April 30th, 2008 at 9:09 am
eto wont come tottenham he wants campions league .. he played rubbish ysterday but he is still world class so you cant knock him .. i agree with the guy that said villa is similiar to keano ( but then if we had a team of keanos in all positions we would be in the top four).. villa is a world class player and i think he would have a positive impact on the club. (BTW is it me or is messi betta than ronaldo?)
Berba needs to have more dedication and commitment to the club.. his starting to think his too big for it, keeping in mind the club has made him who he is, when he was at bayern lev’ nobody knew him so now his the centre of attention he should show his loyalty by staying. We need at least a central defender someone of ledley the kings calibre.. a midfield general like Gerard maybe a van der vart i dono .. Keep Robo as keeper and bing in another good one coz cerny is leaving thats for sure..
If berba goes thanks for what you’ve given to the club but we’ll survive ,( kinda like an henry and arsenal suituation) remember we ended up 5th the season before with keane and defoe upfront and a weaker squad then this one..
ramos wheres a who - April 30th, 2008 at 9:13 am
spurs will do a leeds spend big a pay the price in the long term
thunderpants - April 30th, 2008 at 10:35 am
i dont give a rats ass to who we sign as our forward!
i think we forget that robbie keane is a class act anyways and has done the business for us as much, if not more, than berba, eto’o, etc.
whoever we sign should be pairing with keano and not taking his place.
im a big fan of keano and his passion comes across week in week out.
keane will score you goals every season if he had the service
Jermain Defoe He's Yiddo! - April 30th, 2008 at 10:47 am
Berbatov is 27! I’d love to see eto at the lane he would give more than what berba gives, dont get me wrong I love berba but he is not consistent! Poulsen would sort our midfield needs or gattusso capel would be a gem. I think we should all wait until the summer till we comment on things not paper talk!
Jermain Defoe He's Yiddo! - April 30th, 2008 at 10:51 am
In response to ramos wheres a whoo!
GET REAL SPURS ARE ONE OF THE RICHEST CLUBS IN EUROPE UNLIKE LEEDS WERE!
IrishSpursFan - April 30th, 2008 at 11:37 am
Really … come on … Spurs are not a big club. We will never finish above 5th. Look at our league position?! OK we won the tin cup but really … we come a poor second to those scumbags up the road.
hitman - April 30th, 2008 at 11:47 am
defoe hes a yiddo, leeds were in the top 4 when it started to go wrong unlike spurs but i bet you you think spurs are a bigger club than leeds
shinzo - April 30th, 2008 at 11:55 am
why would spurs want another forward?
simple!
berbatov is unreliable, Keane’s not world class, and frankly, Darren Bent is a complete flop..what a way to spend 16mil!
danny - April 30th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
i think spurs are going to surprise a few people with some shrewd business this summer….
dont be surprised if we do pick up the big names, im not saying Eto’o but i do think its a possibility….
there are 4 big clubs in the prem (ars, Utd, Liv, Che),
3 of which can afford those players, of those 3 (not arsenal),
2 of them players wont go to because of lack of playing time, and lack of stability (chelsea)., Liverpool have torres, and wont be spending big again because of the gillete/hicks thing .. that leaves liverpool and utd… …
so its united…. fair, i’d go to united over spurs too….. but they arent gonna go for every player are they?
I understand we arent in Champs league….. but given that there are no guarantees from Liverpool, Arsenal, or Chelsea…. why not go to a club like SPurs who are on the up, stable, and going in the right direction??
I know this is all a bit far fetched… but spurs arent an unnatractive option, and its about time people recognised that.
David Kirby - April 30th, 2008 at 12:50 pm
I love this idea that Berb may reconsider leaving!!! Is there a contract here? Or do contracts mean SFA and players can leave whenever their agent has an overdraft?
David Kirby - April 30th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
Spurs jump at the chance and get Petrov from Man City if he wants to go now Sven is apparently off.
Uncle Necky - April 30th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
Forget David Villa. Madrid are desperate to sign him. Let me think? Bernabeu or WHL. Tough call.
If Eto is available, surely one of the Milan teams wil be in for him. Can’t see spur’s getting him either.
tino - April 30th, 2008 at 4:06 pm
i am currently reading in irish paper that spurs r favs to sign a 14 year old keeper c alled sam clougher, article says up 2 six prem clubs after him . best prospect since shay given. heres the good bit. . . . . . . . . . despite LIAM BRADYS best efforts to secure the signature of SAM CLOUGHER for ARSENAL the word is that a pre - contract will be signed in the next few days.
1-O TO THE TOTTENHAM. . . . . .
TINO DUBLIN
PADDY THE SPURS - April 30th, 2008 at 4:34 pm
MUST HAVE READ THE SAME ARTICLE, SAW THIS KID PLAY LAST MONTH FOR DUBLIN V LIMERICK, WE SAW LIAM BRADY THERE. THIS KEEPER IS THE DOGS! READ IN THE PROGRAMME THAT HE WON SOME PACKIE BONNER AWARD FOR BEST YOUNG KEEPER IN FAI TALANT OF THE FUTURE
WELL DONE THE SPURS
Deano - April 30th, 2008 at 4:41 pm
I’ve had enough of this bollocks. If Berb’s wants to go… “Fuck him” (and that WANKY agent of his).
Why is it… that all we hear of, is Eto’o, Villa, Kanoute, Santa Cruz??? Has everyone forgot about ‘the brilliant dutchman’ (No not Big Martin) Huntellar?
He is Young, he will be cheaper; than most of the names we have been linked with, and he knows; where the goal is.
One thing I hope Spurs don’t do… is forget, that there is still talent in England/UK!!!
stoney - April 30th, 2008 at 5:45 pm
scorpion. Please tell me where i said it was good business. Read my post again. I was explaining where the money comes from. I await your apology. Especially for the chavski jibe. You ignorant pr*ck.
romford ron - April 30th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
THE ONLY STORY WORTH TAKING SERIOUSLY HERE IS THAT IRISH ONE ABOUT THE 14 YEAR OLD. SAW HIS NAME ON ANOTHER THREAD ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO. ANYWAY IF HE TOLD ARSENAL TO F OFF HE IS WELCOME AT SPURS. LETS GIVE HIM OUR BACKING.
ralph skov - April 30th, 2008 at 8:11 pm
bullshit all:
1. Eto is finished, not better than Bent
2. If Spurs want Champion L. football then a must
of 3-4 worldclass players. This new croat, maybee ok,
but still need left winger, midfielder, defender and goalkeeper.
What a shame loosing Defoe, he should have played left winger
and stayed.
Both Manc.U/Chealsea/Liverpool and Arsenal have the 4-5 worldclass
players, thats why they play C.L. , Spurs dont.
3. Check yourselfs, when Spurs cant beat lousy teams, even at home then????
