Spurs face competition for £5m man: Is he really worth fighting for?
by Mr Comfort on April 30th, 2008Tottenham have been chasing keeper Carlos Kameni for some time now, but now another Premier League side has joined the race.
Aston Villa are ready to beat Tottenham for Espanyol’s £5m-rated Cameroon international goalkeeper Carlos Kameni. (Daily Mail)
Clearly Tottenham need a keeper and the Espanyol man would be a decent, if unspectacular signing, and it did seem a few weeks ago that this was a done deal. There are a number of keepers out there linked with both clubs who have both seen an upturn in fortunes and are both clubs who have been rejuvenated and are far more likely to attract top class names. But is Carlos a top name

He’d be good as a number two.

Personally I’d go for Manuel Neurer he’s on top of his game and has potential to be amongst the best in the world in the future; which is what we should be aiming for. Our number two should be the more established Santiago Cañizares who should replace Perry Suckling as goalkeeping coach once fully qualified. Hopefully by then we’ll have Ben Alnwick stepping up for the number two position. Make it happen Mr. Comolli!

Not seen anything of him to be honest. What I have heard of him he is no better than what we already have. We would loose him for the African Cup of Nations as well so we need another top keeper as a No 2. I agree, Ben Foster would be a good signing but I reckon he is being groomed to be United’s No1. Green would be my choice and I still like Robbo, with a solid & settled defence in front of him he would have more trust in his defenders and leave them to deal with stuff that he is currently taking on himself. What has happened to Alnwick (spelling)?

I would be worried about the African Nations Cup and those players wanting to play for their countries - I am sure that it has been one of the negatives as far as Chelsea are concerned - they really missed their african players - There are other as good and better for the money.

Personally i would keep faith with Robbo as Number one you know us with short memories should ask how he became England number one - Performances!
Two years ago he was in great form - someone once said form is temporary classs is permanent, i am not seeing he is world clase but he has hab a bad time of late, i would think we were better off looking at a great number two who could challenge robbo for the jersey rather than ship robbo out for £5m get a replacement for £5m and still need a number two, the latter does not make sence

num 2 to who ? robbo ? LMAO…
personally i think we should be looking at the goalkeepers we already have on our books, and i dont mean robbo or cerny

Robbo has lost the plot. We can’t go into another season hoping he can catch a crossed ball. Get rid. IMO Kameni is NOT the answer. Add a couple more mill and we can get a far more proven goalie. I can’t believe that Ramos would settle on this guy as his #1. Not happening. Look for them to open the vault (again) and sign Gomez. Brilliant goalie, excellent experience, supremely confident..in a word THE MAN.

i watch the eredivisie and on many occasions Gomez has made lots of mistakes and he clatters into everyone especially his defenders.. i think Marco Amelia or Mauel Neuer would be better choices

Kemeni is a FANTASTIC goalkeeper and miles ahead of all mentioned here. The extra is that Kemeni is goal even with a leaking defence.
I have followed his career and you hardly find him leaking like Robbo. He is also excellent with crosses which he handles very well.
RAMOS is extremely smart and shrewd and getting Kameni for £5m will be a brilliant steal.
The ANC comes up every 2 yrs and hving your second team goalkeeper in for 6 weeks will be little problem especially considering what SPURS have had to do with fumbling ROBBO.
I like what I am seeing at the Lane as Ramos reshapes his team. I have absolute confidence in Ramos and hope we do away with the following players …
Dawson, Lee, Ekotto, Stalteri, Taino, Berbatov (replace with Etoo or Villa).
We need another stong central defender and defensive midfielder who will assist Zakora who is the only defensive midfielder as Jenas and Huddlestone are attacking midfielders who are poor tacklers. Jamie O’Hara is still inexperienced and needs time to mature despite his massive contribution this year.
Keita & Alves from Seville will be fantastic to have for next season!

as much as i hate to say it but robbos time at spurs has come to an end. he needs to regain his confidence under less media speculation and get back as Englands number 1. in terms of who should replace him personnally i would want cudicini.
1 he is proven in the PL ( I know not a big deal for keepers but does make a difference)
2 experienced
3 quality keeper proven at may levels
Tottenham could rebuild him into a major keeper in the world. I hate to say it but being behind cech is not disgrace. chelsea would sell begrudgingly cos they need to break even eventually. forget that he is a former chelsea boy he is real quality and can deal with the pressures involved with playing for tottenham.
what would really put a smile on my face is a former chelsea player coming back to haunt them which Cudicini could easily do!!

kameni is a decent keeper. but is there really much difference between him and robinson? i think buying him wud be just adding another robinson over there
