Martin O’Neill throws Rafa over his knee and spanks him (metaphorically)
May 3, 2008
The Sun are telling anyone that can read that Aston Villa boss Martin O’Neill is in a mouth frothing frenzy over Liverpool’s Gareth Barry bid. Apparently the Anfield club sent over a fax to their Aston Villa counterparts offering some dosh and several anonymous players in exchange for Gareth Barry - a veritable Pot Luck offer.
O’Neill wasn’t happy at all though saying:
“I am disappointed and that’s an understatement.
“I have spoken to the chairman and Randy Lerner is equally disappointed — and that’s an understatement.
“It’s a deliberate unsettling tactic and particularly disruptive the day before a game.
“It’s not how I would like to conduct business. I will be returning the call and maybe speak to Rafa and I will make the point to Liverpool.”
So all in all pretty shoddy stuff from Liverpool!

Got something to say?

If they didn’t want to unsettle the player maybe Villa shouldn’t have made the bid public as I don’t hear anyone from Liverpool talking about the bid. Their Chief Executive has already said barry could go so this just Villa trying to start a bidding war?
Ya, even when asked Benitez didn’t mention any name. He just says he is working on transfer target. If he uses media , than what is the problem for Benitez to mention the player that he already sign(Senior player who speaks good english but not english). Rafa is not even mentioning the player who already belong to the club, how come he mention the name of player who might or might not sign for the club?
get over it o’niell liverpool have had board room squabbles power shifts and the managers job being offered to every tom dick and harry the day before match day and still havn’t done terribly this season, oh and every1 saying that teams will need home grown talent cos of a new rule being brought in, its a load off balls cause its against eu policy against uefa rules its descrimination against foreign emplyees, its not goin to happen
Looks to me as if Villa is unsettling their player themselves, the day before a crucial match. O’Neill puts bad taste in my mouth trying to make Liverpool the scapegoat for the fact that Barry wants to go.
It is not Rafa that needs a slap, it’s Rick Parry the chief exec that needs it! Is there any wonder Tom Hicks want’s him out.
Arry the wide boy is allowed to spout his desire for Crouch with no criticism … as for timing, before a European Cup semi final no less
Liverpool fans trying to deflect the criticism back, what a surprise. Liverpool can’t exactly talk about handling things in a professional manner at this moment in time now can they?
Seems to me to be more like a baby throwing his toys from the pram! Get on with things MOM.
I’m surprised O’Neil thinks this is something new from Liverpool - they have a track record of using nefarious methods to get players they want. Nick Barmby was bought from Everton after being ‘tapped-up’ and they were slapped on the wrist by the Prem League for the way they bought Christian Ziegler. Far from being a new trait, this is just typical Liverpool, sneaky, under-the-counter behaviour.
Liverpool made a bid. O’Neill could have rejected it and kept his mouth shut. Barry wouldn’t have even had to know about it. But instead he goes on the attack. I think Barry is over rated anyway so fuck ‘em.
Mmmm!!! I always knew they were Kinky up North!!
What exactly did Liverpool do wrong here? They faxed an offer to the club, that’s completely legitimate. Dixie, maybe if you gave an example from the last 10 years, your argument would hold some water. The fact is, Liverpool haven’t been guilty of anything all the other clubs haven’t been doing as well.
