Aston Villa and West Ham battle it out for £5m Premier League star
May 6, 2008
Gareth Southgate appears to have a big of a problem in the summer, a host of players seem to have made it clear they are on the lookout for a Riverside exit, and this latest target has attracted many suitors.
Aston Villa and West Ham are showing interest in £5m-rated midfielder Gary O’Neil, who is set to quit Middlesbrough just 10 months after signing. (The Sun)
The 25 year old’s career has stuttered somewhat in recent years and his move to Boro hasn’t been a fantastic one. Clearly both Curbs and Martin O’Neill have much to offer the former England Under 21 man but which club would win the race?

Got something to say?

GON reasons for leaving have nothing to do with football - he is unsettled away from the South Coast.
His first season at the Riverside has been very impressive and both the fans and the manager want him to stay …
Speculation is ok - but commenting on a club, a player and the situation without having a clue about either is silly
I remember him at Pompey. He used to be pretty good. At West Ham we could return him to that form, but lets be honest, we can do better. Villa can have him.

why would villa take a player who is not good enough for west ham? im sure you meant it the other way around ………………………………………..

Because Villa have a very small squad. They signed Harewood and Reo-Coker didn’t they. They were officially not good enough for West Ham.
It’s not Rocket Surgery.
Is anyone else getting fed up of being linked with real 6/10 Curbs-esque players such as Stephen Carr and Gary O Neill its pathetic. I mean they fit the bill as classic curbishly signings in the mould of the previous slightly ageing, injury prone, havent played well for the 18 months but have Premiership experience lot. What is even more frustrating is that the likes of Deano, Green, and Anton are being linked away from the club effectively the backbone of what we should be building on, they have recognised that curbs’ knowledge of world football is not strong enough by bringing in Nani and therefore how are still linked to tripe like Carr!?? …finally Curbs has said ‘nobody tells them to go out there and not pass the ball’ but in the same breath it seems nobody is telling them to out and actually pass the ball, if a team has no guidance and you have two big target men up front the full backs will naturally ‘hit ‘ the target men IF they are not told otherwise.

Don’t you mean rocket science?
Also, have a look at where Villa and Spam are respectively on the table. before assuming the Spam could do better. Hmmm, who would you rather be managed by, MO’N or Curbs? I wonder!!
curbs is a stressy fuker!
To Pete,
Don’t you mean Brain Science? Low flying head?
I am aware of the table thanks. I am also aware that with West Ham’s injury problems Villa would almost certainly have been relegated. It’s fairly obvious who has the better SQUAD. Managerial ability has no bearing on that.
Thank you for your understanding.
