Newcastle boss thinks the Premier League is boring, and he’s not the only one…
May 6, 2008
The final hurdle of the Premier League is coming and whilst Chelsea and Man Utd limber up for their final matches, noone has successfully broken the Bog Four’s choke hold on the summit of the Premiership. Yet again the usual suspects will claim the Champions League slot, whilst the rest have to squabble over the far inferior UEFA Cup. Even Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan, who claims that his side have next to no chance of breaking into the top four, is starting to feel a tad bored by all this “Big Four” malarkey. Keegan said:
“This league is in danger of becoming one of the most boring, but great, leagues.
“It would be mad to say we will be in the top four next season. We are a million miles away from them.
“The top four will be the same as this year but what I can say to our fans is we will try to get fifth and win the other league that is going on.”
So is KK right, is this League a predictable snooze fest?

Got something to say?

Yes, Keegan has it right. Each season it becomes increasingly pointless to watch games that aren’t between the top three or four. The rest aren’t really competing for anything and it shows in the mostly less-than-total-effort displays.
Sooner or later the top three/four will move on to a super league of some sort. But the problem will repeat itself when another champions league is created for the rest and a new second-tier elite emerges.
Meanwhile, why would a premiership manager make these comments. Hasn’t Keegan just eliminated Newcastle from competition for top players? Why would any ambitious player join a club who’s own manager says they will never make it to the Champions League?
How dare you Dave Smith, dissing the Messiah like that, you daft turnip head
DAVE SMITH is right! Its a cop out attitude that does no one any good.
To be the manager of the sixth richest team in the U.k. and the twenty first wealthiest team in the world, with a billionaire owner and to voice such a defeatist attitude, can only lead to a self fulfilling disaster.
What happened to the great optimist, the guy who could generate a winning attitude, the messiah!
I am sure the loss of Modric to spurs has played a role in his thinking and who knows what goes on behind the scenes in regard to money and club politics?
No one wants to hear ‘We have to be realistic” just get on with the job with no more negative vibes, or the club will be unable to attract anyone and it will also have a negative effect on the present team.
Chuck.,
You complete numpty, do you not realise that KK made those comments to put a rocket under the backside of Mr Ashley. Basically he is calling the owners bluff by challenging him to start buying big and challenge the top 4. Thought it was obvious and typical KK. Wake up sonshine!
What are you suggesting ,this is some kind of game being played between KK and whoever controls the dosh?
Is it perhaps you find it difficult to accept criticism of the Messiah?
No one I know expects Utd. to challenge for the top Four in the PL this coming year, but to publicly state that Newcastle have next to no chance of breaking into the top four, to me sounds a bit defeatist and how do you think the team or any player considering to play for the club feel about playing for an also ran, according to their manager, some incentive!
