Spurs linked with £20m trio for the future: Could be just what they need

May 6, 2008

Juande Ramos continues to be linked with big name signings left right and centre, but here are three lesser known talents of the younger variety that show that the Spaniard may be keen to beef up the squad with youth.

Tottenham are chasing Real Zaragoza attacker Sergio Garcia.(AS)
Spurs are ready to bid for the ex-Barcelona forward Garcia, who is likely to be made available by cash-strapped Zaragoza at the end of the season.

Tottenham are chasing Samir Handanovic as they look for a new keeper and the Udinese stopper said: “I believe my future away from Udine all depends on how well I play. If I do well at this club, then opportunities will open up for me, but that doesn’t mean I want to leave.” (various)

Arsenal and Spurs after Lille midfielder Jean Makoun (setantasports.com)
Makoun’s agent, Jean-Christophe Thouvenel, said: “Makoun is on Arsenal’s short-list if Flamini leaves. Tottenham are also interested in the midfielder and I believe that (sporting director) Damien Comolli is an admirer of Jean.”

All these targets seem quite wise, they are all the right side of 25 and all have a decent level of experience to call upon. More importantly they are all playing for the lesser clubs in their respective leagues and would surely jump at a chance to join Ramos’s Spurs revolution. Which of these excites Spurs fans?

More youth!?! And what will we do with them? Stick ‘em in the reserves and then sell after a year or two for half the amount we bought them for….after all, that is our current trend.

Sergio Garcia is a good player! whether or not he’s good enough for tottenham, i’m not sure! if we’re after a spanish striker who has a relatively small buys out clause for his ability i would suggest daniel guiza! obviously david villa would be first choice for most, including myself but realistically when barce and real battle for him and valencia need the money, we can’t really afford to compete (even if they used tto sell stars cheaper to clubs outside la liga)
daniel guiza’s tall, quick, good touch, great finisher.

Makoun is a defensive midfielder in the same mould as Zokora. He had a good write up in the past in World Soccer magazine but I’m wary of buying someone in the French league just because he has been linked with Wenger and he’s recommended by Comolli. Have not been impressed with many of Comolli’s signings pariculary the French African players. There is better about than Makoun. Lorik Cana dominates Lyon’s midfield and I’ve heard Gatusso could be up for sale.

Not heard of the other two so they can’t be particulary good. Should be aiming to sign players with Champions League experience if we are to believe that is the clubs aim. The current squad is at best 4 players short of a Top 4 1st XI not to mention squad depth.

Well personally I dont want a defensive midfielder in the same mould as Zokora.
I would like a reasonable defensive midfielder though.

Makoun looks very good and has a good reputation even for the french league, hopefully he could turn into an essien character for us!!!!

Like the idea of the keeper though i think there is better out there, but it depends on what Ramos is given to spend!!

Dont like the garcia option there are better strikers we could land which would give us a very long shot at the top 4!!!! still need a left winger, centre half and more though

Anybody heard of Lorik Cana? The guy is an animal!! I have never seen such a determined and gritty player. And also with skill. He is a DM and can also play in defense. Roy Keane himself would have been fearful of this guy.

All three have the potential to go far but do we need so many youngsters in the squad…in the end most of them get frustrated and leave after 1 or 2 season with spurs except one or two like Lennon and Huddlestone but Ramos knows best and hopefully he don’t make the same mistake Jol did when he bought Bent, Kevin Prince Boeting and Kaboul.Get the best for spurs and the top four is our target next season.

Can somebody please call Arsene and tell him to buy Lorik Cana - that’s the best replacement we can get for Flamini and I even think he is better than Flam. The perfect partner and guardian for Fabregas

Got something to say?
