Lot number 738, a rarely-used Liverpool and England striker. We’ll start the bidding at £15million…
by stresster on May 8th, 2008Should your team be bidding for Peter Crouch this summer? It’s clear that if the former QPR hitman gets a regular run of games for most Premier League clubs, he’ll score a fair few, both on the floor and in the air. It’s just a shame that Liverpool FC manager Rafael Benitez seems intent on persisting with a formation that includes just one forward, and that Crouch has to compete with the goal machine that is Fernando Torres.
While there’s been a whole heap of speculation surrounding Crouch all season, most of which has been rebuffed by the striker, it now appears as though the talented forward is moving to pastures new. Sky Sports report that Rafael Benitez has slapped a £15million price tag on his head (after getting a ladder out to reach that far), which is the equivalent of one-and-a-half Gareth Barry’s if Liverpool’s economics are anything to go by.
“Crouch wants to play every week but knows he must fight it out with Fernando Torres,” Benitez said.
“We keep seeing Portsmouth linked with the player but we have had no offer as yet.
“A £15m price tag would not be unreasonable.”
Which is basically the Spaniard’s way of saying ’show me the money’ to potential buyers. Harry Redknapp is clearly a fan of Crouchaldinho, having been his manager when the pair were at Southampton. Will there be a little and large act at Pompey next season, with Crouch and Defoe wreaking havoc amongst opposition defences?

be good up at Newcastle
receiving balls from Owen and holding up play for Oba Martins to run off up the left

recieving balls from owen? what kind of fucking organisation are they running up there?!
surely it would be owen on the receiving end anyway, all the wee knockdowns? and playing oba down the left makes him half the threat. what are you thinking man?
hold on a minute….
is this kevin? is this kevin keegan?

you say its s.h.i.t but then remember the sales last season…. bent for 16 mil etc etc
crouch has always scored goals wherever he was…. and brings a lot to a team… i dont think 15 mil is that far off tbh

Crouch’s contract ends next summer? If yes, his value should be 7 million pds and below.

Crouch must be found out at some point, he has the co-ordination of a jellyfish yet somehow seems to convince people he can actually play
he looks like he belongs in the championship and I have to say I really don’t get it….
although that said he scores goals and has decent feet for a tall lad so maybe he is actually quite good.

I don’t know if you’ve watched Newcastle in the last 8 or so games, but Michael Owen has dropped deep and is playing ‘in the hole’. Having lost a lot of pace, Kevin Keegan has seen the ability of Owen to pick up play and feed Viduka/Martins.
Martins blazes on the ‘inside left’ (as it used to be called) and causes all sorts of problems for defences.
Say what you like about Keegan, but he has actually displayed a good understanding of Owen’s abilities and tactical nouse. On this occasion

sorry to be fair i haven’t. but i thought crouchs biggest quality is his ability to hold up the ball, and provide knock down for his peers to run onto. its just weird visualising crouch playing off owen!? crouch isn’t one for ‘bursting’ by players. so maybe in your scenario of owen playing deeper, as provider, crouch would not be the man to partner him? so much of owens game was pace, and hanging off the ;ast man, getting in between defenders and in front of the ball. if he’s playing deeper, and his strength was never his creativity, maybe he’s the wrong man to be building a front line on?
if you bought crouch, the sensible thing, i think, would be for him to be the target man, and for martins(if owen lacks the pace) to play off him on the inside left, feeding off the knockdons, no?

I agree with one of the earlier posts. Crouch good decent feet for his height but overal I am not overly impressed. He scores here and there but I would pick lots of other players over him…
